| 1st "FABIO’S FANTASY TOUR
LEAGUE" - RULES The 1st "Fabio’s Fantasy Tour League"
is a Fantasy Cycling Game whose format is a bit different from the "usual"
one, and from all games so far organized by the "Daily Peloton".
Participants in the "Fantasy Tour League" will play with the
same 9 Riders and 2 Trade Teams they pick for the Fantasy Tour Game,
such that:
1. They don't need a separate registration: every player
entering his/her team in the "Create Fantasy Team" section will be admitted
into both the Fantasy Tour Game and the preliminary phase of the
Fantasy Tour League.
2. Each day players will get the same stage score as
in the Fantasy Tour Game, according to their rider and trade team
performances.
But the "Fantasy Tour League" is not like a "cycling race"
or average Fantasy Game, with all teams competing together in every stage
and the overall classification, like they were part of a "peloton", and
getting stage points whose sum is their cumulative score.
As the name suggests, this game looks more like a kind of
"league" instead, be it the European Football Premier League, Bundesliga or
"Serie A", or America's NFL and NBA. Every team plays a different rival
in a one-on-one match in every different Tour de France stage, except
for the prologue, which represents the "preliminary phase" of the game (more
details on this are available below).
If your team wins, you earn 2, 3 or 4 points (according to
the stage).
If the match ends in a draw, with riders and trade teams of
both you and your rival of the day getting the same score, both teams get 1
point only.
And if your team loses the one-on-one match … sorry folks,
you don’t get any points.
Needless to say, the teams achieving the highest overall
score at the end of each phase get access to the next one. The game ends in
a final, one-on-one match between the Top 2 Virtual Teams, disputed on the
TdF’s ultimate day (Sunday, July 27th 2003).
1st "FABIO’S FANTASY TOUR LEAGUE" - GROUPS
and PHASES
PRELIMINARY PHASE
(Prologue, Saturday July 5th, 2003)
This phase will be disputed only in case more than 192
players enter the game. It is needed in order to select the 192 virtual
teams that will take part in the "Fantasy Tour League". Rules are similar to
the Fantasy Tour Game, with all players competing against each other in a
kind of "peloton", and getting stage points according to the results of
their own picks in the opening race against the clock. Only the 192
participants with the best scores in the preliminary stage of the game will
be admitted into Phase One of the "Fantasy Tour League".
Tie Breaking Rules (Preliminary Phase and Finals only):
In case two or more teams score the same number of points in
the prologue classification, or there’s any draw in any one-one-match in the
finals (TdF last stage), the consequent ties would be broken according to
the same factors as in the Fantasy Tour Games, namely:
A. The number of points earned by the RIDER with the highest
score inside the virtual team;
B. In case the best rider is the same, or got the same
number of points: the number of points earned by the TEAM with the highest
score;
C. In case both the best rider and team are the same,
or got the same number of points: the number of points earned by the the
RIDER with the SECOND BEST score inside the virtual team;
D. In case the SECOND best rider is the same, or got the
same number of points: the number of points earned by the RIDER with the
SECOND BEST score inside the virtual team;
E. In case the best THIRD best rider is the same, or got the
same number of points: the number of points earned by the RIDER with the
THIRD BEST score inside the virtual team;
... and so on until the NINTH best rider, and eventually the
SECOND best team.
In the event equality still persists, the tie will be broken
according to the time of registration of your Virtual Team. (The
earlier you registered, the better...)
FANTASY TOUR LEAGUE - PHASE 1
(Stages 1 to 7, July 5-12 2003)
The 192 best-placed virtual teams in the Prologue standings
will be admitted into Phase 1 of the FTL, and divided into 24 Groups of 8
teams each, according to a draw held after the Prologue results are known.
Draw results and the complete schedule of this phase will be posted on the
Daily Peloton site.
From Sunday, July 6 (Saint-Denis/Montgeron - Meaux, 168
km.), to Saturday, July 12 (Lyon - Morzine, 230 km.), each participant will
play a different member of his/her group in a one-on-one match.
As I wrote above, if your team gets a better stage score
than your opponent’s and wins the match, you add 2, 3 or 4 points to your
overall score, according to the stage (details below), If you get the same
stage score as your opponent, both players earn 1 point (this rule applies
to each stage). If your daily rival does better than you, your team simply
doesn’t get any point.
Points per Victory: Winners of each one-on-one match
are awarded:
-
2 POINTS in Stages 1, 2, & 3 -
3 POINTS in Stages 4, 5 & 6 -
4 POINTS in Stage 7
Qualifying Teams: The Top 4 Virtual Teams in each
group at the end of Stage 7 (Saturday, July 12th) are admitted into Phase 2
of the "Fantasy Tour League". A total of 92 teams goes through, while the
game will be over for as many players at this point.
Tie-Breaking Rules - Phase One: In case two players
have the same overall score at the end of this phase, the deciding factor in
order to break the tie is the one-on-one match between them. The winner of
that match takes the better place in the group’s Final GC.
If the one-on-one match ended in a draw, we look at the
cumulative score (total amount of points scored by the player's riders and
trade teams all through the current phase). The player with the best
cumulative score takes the better place in the group’s Final GC.
In case three or more players end on the same score, we look
at the "mini-league", the results of all one-on-one matches played among
them. The one who got most points in those matches gets the best place in
the group’s Final GC.
In case equality still persists, then we look at the
cumulative score (total amount of points scored by the player's riders and
trade teams all through the current phase). The player with the best
cumulative score takes the better place in the group’s Final GC.
FANTASY TOUR LEAGUE - PHASE 2
(Stages 8 to 14, July 13-20, 2003)
This phase takes place in a fashion similar to the previous
one: the 96 Virtual Teams admitted into Phase 2 of the "FTL" are divided
into 12 groups of 8 teams each, according to a draw held after all Phase 1
Final Standings are known. Draw results and the complete schedule of this
phase will be posted in a Daily Peloton news article and also on the Fantasy
Game main page.
From Sunday, July 13 (Sallanches - l'Alpe D'Huez, 219 km.)
to Sunday, July 20 (Saint-Girons - Loudenvieille, 191 km.), each participant
will play a different member of his/her group in a one-on-one-match.
Just like in Phase 1, if your team gets a better stage score
than your opponent’s and wins the match, you add 2, 3 or 4 points to your
overall score, according to the stage (details below). If you get the same
stage score as your opponent, both players earn 1 point (this rule applies
to each stage). But if your daily rival does better than you, your team
simply doesn’t get any point.
Points per Victory: Winners of each one-on-one match
are awarded:
-
2 POINTS in Stages 8, 10 &11 -
3 POINTS in Stage 9, 12 & 13 -
4 POINTS in Stage 14
Qualifying Teams: In this field, rules are different
than in the previous phase. Indeed only the 12 WINNERS, the best-placed
virtual teams in each group at the end of Stage 14 (Sunday, July 20th) are
admitted into Phase 3 of the "Fantasy Tour League", and will be vying for
the title. Also the second placed Virtual Teams in each group will be
admitted into the next phase, but they will compete for places from 13 to 24
only.
Tie-Breaking Rules - Phase Two: In case two or more
players have the same overall score at the end of this phase, ties are
broken following the same rules as in Phase 1.
FANTASY TOUR LEAGUE - PHASE 3
(Stages 15-19, July 21-26, 2003)
Both the 12 virtual teams admitted into Phase 3 of the
"Fantasy Tour League" and going for the final victory, and the other dozen
competing for 13th place, are divided into 2 groups of 6 Virtual Teams each,
according to a draw held after all phase 2 final standings are known.
Results of the draw and full schedule of this phase will be posted on the
Daily Peloton site. Players still in contention for the overall victory are
admitted into groups "A" and "B", while groups "C" and "D" are reserved for
competitors going for 13th place.
From Monday, July 21 (Bagnères-de-Bigorre - Luz-Ardiden, 159
km.), to Saturday, July 26 (Pornic - Nantes, 49 km. - ITT), each participant
will play a different member of his/her group in a one-on-one match.
Like in previous phases, if your team gets a better stage
score than your opponent’s and wins the match, you add 2, 3 or 4 points to
your overall score, according to the stage (details below). If you get the
same stage score as your opponent, both players earn 1 point (this rule
applies to each stage). But if your daily rival does better than you, your
team simply doesn’t get any point.
Points per Victory: Winners of each one-on-one match
are awarded:
Qualifying Teams: At the end of Stage 20 (Saturday,
July 26th) WINNERS of the "A" and "B" Groups qualify for the FINAL MATCH, to
be disputed the next day, in the TdF ultimate stage into Paris. Also all
other "A" and "B" Group Virtual Teams, plus the Top 4 Virtual Teams in the
"C" and "D" Groups, will be playing a different one-on-one match, a
different final to be disputed on Sunday, July 27th. See full details below.
Tie-Breaking Rules - Phase Three: In case two or more
players have the same overall score at the end of this phase, ties are
broken following the same rules as as in both previous phases.
