descending down high melton hill
heavy rain
as i hit
hangmanstone crossroads
a van pulls out from behind a lorry
and i am in an ONCE jacket doing 30 mph but going downhill

the driver of the van
and my
eyes
meet for a moment
i hit the brakes
and in that slow motion world of high adrenaline
feel the rear wheel slip under my right hand side
i corrected the rear wheel and found myself heading into the car behind the
van that had tried to kill me
slow motion went
and i found myself in the grass verge
bike held high
with road rash and suspicion
maybe the hangmanstone still dwells
