Second Place  -  Bryan Gioannini

the giro '02

cycling grand tours are dramatic indeed,
for twenty-three days it's all that we need,
the lows and the highs are simply extreme,
so compelling the world fades to a dream,

the homeland italians have favorites, it's true,
but there are foreign threats, in this giro '02,
we're hoping the race will be really tight,
dreaming of heroes engaged in the fight,

soon after the start the sad news began,
ejections and doping brought down the fan,
beside these lows there were real highs also,
go cipo, tyler, cadel, and paolo,

the lows are forgotten soon after it's over,
but the highs are the stuff we'll remember forever,
as true fans we know what's needed to ride,
sacrifice, discipline, talent, and pride,

modern cycling has changed for the better you see,
communication's a gift to you and to me,
the 'net lets us share our thoughts as we do,
enhancing the bike race - giro '02
