Thor Hushvod, last years green jersey winner in the Maillot Jaune of race leader after beating the prologue specialist setting a time of 8:17:000 for the technical 7.1 kms test. The time was .73 seconds faster than Discovery Channels George Hincapie who finished second on the days effort.

Discovery Channel's Yaroslav Popovych clocked a 8:37:20 finished in 32nd place twenty seconds off the pace of winner Thor Hushvod. The Ukrainian is one of the bullets that Disco can fire as a G.C. contender as the tour sorts out the strongest in the first two weeks. The first time in 7 years that Discovery comes to the tour without a chosen leader after the retirement of Lance Armstrong.
