Women's Tour of Flanders
Univega takes over the lead in the World Cup Team ranking
going into WC round # 4 the Flechè Wallone!

Due to perfect tactics in the race by our team and the 2nd place of Christiane Soeder and the 6th place of Nicole Cooke takes over the World Cup lead from the T-Mobile Team.
The Team will start with advantage of 20 points into the WC round # 4 the Flechè Wallone!

Christane Soeder launched her attack at km 68, on a 2 km long cobblestones section. Only last years winner Miriam Melcher van Poppel Team Flexpoint, Edwige Pitel Team Bianchi and Kimberly Anderson from T-Mobile could follow;  but Anderson was dropped right after the Mollenberg and went back into the main group.

The trio worked well together and increased the gap became over one minute, when Melchers attacked herself and gained quickly a gap of  30 seconds to Pitel and Soeder. Then the decision fell in the Mur of Geraartsbergen, 15 kms before the finish, Melchers had to give tributes to her early attack and became slower while Christiane dropped Frenchwoman Pitel and chased Van Poppel as she tired.

The race final could not have been more dramatic, when both riders came together 3,000 meters before the finish line! In a short power sprint final Melchers-van Poppel won and Christiane could celebrate her first big success in a World Cup Race!
The the sprint of the pursuer's group was won by a strong riding Nicole Cooke for the sixth place!

This is the first time the race was transmitted by Belgium television live and the winner's ceremony was held with Pro men and the King of Belgium in front of  20,000 spectators. A really great thing for all our sponsors!
