Aeg/Toshiba/JetNetwork Celebrated Indepedence Day in Dominican Republic in
Yellow
Baharona Stage 3
After 3 days of hard racing in the 27th addition of the Vuelta Independencia
on the island of Hipsanol, the AEG /Toshiba/JetNetwork pro cycling team turned
up the jets and took over the lead in both the individual and team
classification of one of Latin America’s toughest stage races.
On Dominican Independence Day, Chris Frederick attacked the field and forced
a class selection that included tour of Venezuela stage winner, Richard Ochoa
(Selection de Venezuela), Tour of Martinique winner Herve Arcalde (Martinique)
and the former Vuelta Independencia stage winner, Frederick.
On the roads from San Cristobal to Azua, the three powered away from the
aggressive field and grew a break away to nearly two and a half minutes, which
lasted at least 50 kilometers of the race. Ochoa nipped Frederick at the line
with a wicked sprint as the two cracked their breakaway companion nine
kilometers from the twisting and technical Barahona finish. Eric Keim finished
ninth in the stage and handily won the field sprint while being led out by
teammate Predrag Prokick, Chris DeLuise, Joe Fernandez, AJ Smith.
Frederick trades in the Blue Meta Volante jersey as the leader of the
Intermediate Sprints classification for the Leader’s Yellow jersey and starts
the fourth stage as both the leader of intermediate sprints and the general
classification, and the team starts the day as the top team.
