The inaugural edition of the Amg
The inaugural edition of the Amgen Tour of California begins with a prologue
on Sunday, February 19th. All riders will ride the short 3km prologue
beginning on the Embarcadero and ending high above the city at the infamous Coit
Tower.
Follow along for a pictorial journey from the start to the finish.
The Prologue starts at the Ferry Building at Embarcadero and Market
Streets, near the heart of the financial district of San Francisco.
There is a lovely view of the San Francisco Bay from the back
of the Ferry Building.

As the riders journey up Embarcadero Street, if they know
where to look they can see their final destination of Coit Tower in the
distance.
After traveling 1.7kms the cyclists will make this sweeping
left turn onto Bay.

After another .24 miles, the riders will turn left onto
Stockton, and will see the sign pointing the way toward Coit Tower.

Right away the riders will notice the road starts going UP!
Hope they like the hills of San Francisco because here they come!

The famous "curvy street" known as Lombard ends at Telegraph
Hill Road in Telegraph Park, which is where Coit Tower is located. Tight
curves and continuing uphill...makes for a perfect Prologue.

Too bad the riders aren't going downhill--check out some of
the views they are missing!

Continuing upward, this view of Coit Tower tells the riders
the end is near.

A statue of Christopher Columbus will welcome them to the
finish line.

The views of the city of San Francisco are no less than
spectacular from Coit Tower. Hope the cyclists can take a moment to enjoy
the beauty!
