Trenton: Crashes and Rain! UPDATED!

Gord Fraser took the win today at Trenton, during rather unusual racing conditions.

Our reporter tells us a stolen vehicle caused a pedestrian fatality on the course prior to the start, causing a delay of 45 to 50 minutes. The rain began during the delay, causing oil to rise on the asphalt portions of the course, and making the brick portions very slick as well. One brick portion of the course near the City Hall was closed entirely, and I was told the riders started off, went a block and then had to stop while the course was re-evaluated.

So while this was to be one of the fastest sprints in the US, it was treacherous instead. In fact, John Eustice said that today saw one of the best sprinting fields in five years. The delay, plus the heavy clouds and rain forced the riders to work nearly in the dark.

A full report will be filed later, but in the meantime here are the official top ten results.
