Vuelta Ciclista a Aragón (2.1): Stage 5

Mr. Rubén Plaza (Comunitat Valenciana) managed to win the overall of the 2005 edition of the Cycling Tour of Aragon. The man from the Alicante area of eastern Spain took the race leadership after Saturday's uphill ITT to Virgen de la Sierra de Herrera de los Navarros and held onto his lead in today's last leg, from Borja to Illueca over 139 km. Plaza's podium companions were his fellow countryman Luis Pérez (Cofidis) and Finland-born British Charles Wegelius (Liquigas-Bianchi) who finished third thanks to his great ride in the aforementioned race against the clock 24 hours before.

Sunday's stage was won by another English-speaking contender, Australian Allan Davis (Liberty Seguros) who, despite a wicked attack from Colombian Félix Cardenas (Barloworld-Valsir) in the final, uphill kilometre, could finally be the first rider across the line after he finished second to Alessandro Petacchi twice in previous legs. The Aussie comfortably edged out talented Spaniard Ricardo Serrano (Kaiku), while always watchful Rubén Plaza - who got his second GC win in a short stage race after his GP Costa Azul triumph in Portugal two months ago - ended up fourth in the stage ranking.
