Aitor Gonzalez wins longest stage of Giro..
 
Kelme rider Aitor Gonzalez Jimenez (SPA) has won stage 8 of the Giro de Italia, the longest stage of the race covering 237kms. Fassa's team leader Francesco Casagrande was second, four seconds behind the winner with Saeco's Gilberto Simoni completing the stage podium. Jens Heppner (TEL) retained the overall lead.

In other news, Domenico Romano (LandboukKrediet-Colnago) has surrended to police, reports say, after breaking Italy's anti-doping rules.
