09:16 EST...Welcome to DP's live ticker for today's stage one of the Giro de Italia.

09:21EST...Today's start is in Groningen and the finish in Munster. It will be 215Km long on a completely flat course. Sprinters are sure to start the festivities early. Mario Cipollini needs to win the intergiro sprint and the stage to capture the Pink Jersey. Expect the Aqua e Sapone boys to show their zebra stripes (or Tiger ones) at the front of the pack.

09:29 EST...Phonak's Juan Carlos Dominguez, won the prologue yesterday by one second. After the race he said that his goal was to keep the pink jersey for the next two days. After that, it was day by day.

09:39 EST...Gruppo Compatto...197 riders took this morning, with Fassa Bartolo only taking 8 riders to the start line after Grozad Stangelj crashed and broke his collarbone during the prologue yesterday...

09:42 EST...M. Streel, J. Garcia, Lacker was the result of the first sprint today...3 hours 35 minutes in the saddle, with some 40 kms before the first intergiro sprint.

09:44 EST...The pack is still together only averaging in 34kph...

09:47 EST...Some riders are sporting a pink band on their arms, as this edition of the race is call Tour of Peace..

09:49 EST...The Giro is now on German soil...

09:51 EST...Robbie McEwen (Lotto) was allowed to go home last night as his wife gave birth to a baby boy...Congrats to Robbie and his family...

09:53 EST...Not a lot of action from the 197 riders so far...Gruppo Compatto...

09:55 EST...80km to the finish...

09:59 EST...Martin Derganc (Aqua e Sappone) goes back to the team car with 20kms before the intergiro.

10:01 EST...Teams Coast and Lotto are starting to send some of their troops to the front to increase the pace...

10:05 EST...From across the Atlantic, Pod informs us that some of the sprinter to look for today are Massimo Strazzer, Ivan Quaranta, Moreno Di Biase, Danilo Hondo, Stefan van Dijk, Saulius Ruskys, Super Mario and McEwen....

10:10 EST...16kms to the first intergiro sprint....Rik Vebrugghe is looking for one second bonus to grab the pink maglia rosa...

10:11 EST...The Zebra boys go to the front to spice things up....

10:14 EST...Is Gasperoni and Conti for Aqua & Sapone at the front with a few Phonak boys keeping close to the front...

10:18 EST...Lotto, Aqua & Sapone, Coast, Phonak...things are getting fast at the front with teams sending the entire squad to up the tempo before the intergiro.

10:19 EST...and Saeco and Telekom join the party...

10:21 EST...Super Mario is commanding his boys, sitting at the end of his Zebra train...

10:23 EST...Riders are getting twitchy...still is Aqua & Sapone at the front..

10:25 EST...Good crowds on the side of today's route enjoying the passing of the Giro de Italia...

10:27 EST...Team Colpack infiltrates the front of the group...

10:29 EST...Colpack-Astro has put the hammer down and has the peloton single file at the moment...

10:32 EST...At the back of the pack is the Pirate, Marco Pantani and his gang...

10:33 EST...Aqua & Sapone regains command at the front of the pack with about 4kms to go to the intergiro...

10:34 EST...Rik Vebrugghe is shawoding Cipollini's wheel, looking for a good leadout to grab the 6 seconds bonus at the intergiro..

10:36 EST...Tonkov seems to have a problem with his machine...possibly the chain or rear deraillieur. His recieving assistance as his rolls on the bike...it's a plastic bag stuck in his rear cassette...

10:37 EST...Lampre's team mechanic is hanging from the car's window trying to get rid of the plastic bag in Tonko's rear cassette...very cool to watch, but very dangerous...

10:39 EST...Big Mario Scirea (Aqua & Sapone) stretches his legs at the front...

10:41 EST..Cipollini gets the first intergiro scoring 6 bonus seconds, with Petacchi (Fassa) taking second...

10:45 EST...Gruppo Compatto, with the speed going down a bit after the sprint...

10:47 EST...With the speed slowing down, some of the boys have pulled to the side of the road for a "potty break"...

10:51 EST...By winning the intergiro, Cipollini is now only 9 seconds from the Maglia Rosa. He will have to win the stage if he wants to wear pink tomorrow.

10:52 EST...Official Intergiro results:

10:55 EST...Some technical difficulties...no tv images at the moment...BUMMER!!!!!!!

10:58 EST...Pictures are back...a few riders try to break away, but the peloton is attentive...

10:59 EST...Saga Gajicic (Tacconi Sport) just went down, but his back up and riding... speed is increasing again...

11:02 EST... Several traffic islands are making life hard for the riders at the back of the pack...

11:03 EST... Gruppo Compatto...

11:05 EST... German team,Gerosltiner, has sent a few boys to the front of the peloton... keeping the tempo steady...

11:10 EST... Another crash at the back, but everyone seems to be OK... Gian Mario Ortenzi (Mercatone Uno) has gone down, but quickly remounts.

11:15 EST... 20kms to the finish and still is Geroslteiner showing the way.

11:18 EST... Several pink Telekom jerseys can be spotted from the helicopter, making their way towards the front, getting ready to set up Danilo Hondo.

11:21 EST... Telekom, Geroslteiner and Lampre at the front...

11:22 EST... The peloton have started the last three circuits in city of Munster.

11:23 EST... Telekom takes control of the front of the peloton.

11:26 EST... And here comes the Phonak team, with the pink jersey in tow...

11:27 EST... Several teams are trying to control the front... so far Aqua & Sapone are nowhere in sight...

11:29 EST... First 5km circuit just finished, with two more to go...10kms "All Arrivo"...

11:31 EST... Andre Korf (Coast) shows his team's colors at the front...

11:32 EST... More problems with the live tv images...

11:36 EST... BELL LAP!!...One TO GO!!!! 5km to the finish..

11:37 EST... Zebras spotted moving towards the front...

11:38 EST... CRASH!!!!! ...few riders down and looking stunned... Saeco and Tacconi seem to have riders down.. Fabio Sacchi is one of them... 1 KM to go.

11:39 EST... The crash caused a gap in the peloton.

11:40 EST... Lombardi opens the sprint for Mario... McEwen tries to come around but it is Super Mario taking the stage...

11:41... Mario takes win number 36 at the Giro and also the Maglia Rosa... Fabio Sacchi (Saeco) has remounted and is riding towards the finish...
