Mapei's young guns can't get enough of winning !!

Aurélien Clerc won today the first stage of the Tour of Slovenia. The MAPEI-Quick Step Young Riders Group sprinter beat Bosthan Mervar of the KRKA-Telekom Slovenia team and Bean Podgornik of the Hit-Casinň team at the end of a closely grouped together final sprint.

The 190 kilometre race was really quite steadily ridden without any particular ‘action’- During the last 10 kilometres, the MAPEI-Quick Step athletes brought themselves to the head of the group keeping up the fast pace. During the last kilometres, Bernhard Eisel took the responsibility of piloting his team mate Clerc right up until 400 metres from the finish line.

The 21-year-old Swiss rider, who has a total of 7 wins under his belt so far this season, completed the excellent teamwork by strikingly crossing the finish line of Beltinci in first place. Thanks to today’s win, Clerc has also gained the leader’s jersey.
