It took eighteen days, but in the end also Danish contenders managed to make their mark on the Fabio's Fantasy Tour 2003. The man who got it, and put end to the American winning streak in FG stages, was Martin Kristensen, whose funny-named team "Lance Armstrong and the Order of the Grand Boucle" (that also was "Bronze Medallist" in the Best Team Name Award) scored 51 points on Thursday, courtesy of TdF stage winner Servais Knaven, back into spotlight after his great showdown at the 2001 P-R, plus Lance Armstrong, Baden Cooke and Denmark's very own Team CSC.

Kristensen edged out runner-up Lexi Tejeda by five points. "Ginger Snaps" wasn't one of the few (actually just 4) Virtual Teams containing Quick Step-Davitamon's Knaven. On the contrary, it benefitted from Paolo Bossoni's excellent performance. The Vini Caldirola-SO.DI. sprinter led the chsing bunch home behind the winner and earned Tejeda 20 points, the first ones from the Italian in this TdF. Armstrong and USPS, Cooke and White Jersey wearer Menchov did the rest in order to take "Ginger Snaps" to a second podium spot in less than a week: just like Paul H. Finley did yesterday, Lexi Tejeda repeated the result she got 5 days before. That will also give her a victory in the daily match of the "Fantasy Tour League" competition, although Tejeda is now competing for places 13 to 20 only.

We had to resort to the Tie-breaking rules to determine the other podium place winner of the day: with Roy Drinkwater and Steven Johnson getting the same score (45 points), and equality persisting after the first Tie-breaking rules were applied, the "who posts first wins" rule awarded third spot, and 5 Bonus Points in the GC, to the American. Besides Kristensen, Drinkwater and Johnson, the only other player that got points from Knaven was Tam Ravenhill: "Delta Pi Omicron" also got a help from Ullrich, but finished behind Brannon Amtower (whose "col slayer", despite lacking both Knaven and Bossoni, had a great stage result thanks to Leon Van Bon and two-time Italy's Road Champion Salvatore "Totó" Commeso, plus LA and USPS of course).

Two Americans (Benjamin Mauceri and Andrew Robins) and as many Brits (Les Tooze and Bob Titman) completed the Stage Top 10, while Nancy Miano had another excellent performance as she placed 13th. Jan Dijkstra and Andrew Titman (with Bob Titman unusually doing better than him this time ...) got the same score: 23 points

There was a record number of 100 PLAYERS on the same score (15 points, 9 of which from Armstrong, the rest from USPS), while three other Virtual Teams, didn't get any on Thursday. And among them was Alan McFarlane's "Denoyer". while the two other McFarlanes (but, unlike Alan, they are Americans), Jeff and Amber tied at 21 points and found a place in the stage Top 40. Such that the Tie-breaking Rules were applied to them too, as it happened to all Top 50 Virtual Teams in the Stage Classification.

Unless any rider part of Dijkstra's "Sprints by Spurts" but not "MayoNazon", namely France's Brochard, Edalaine or Spain's Javier Pascual Llorente has an unexpectedly great result (probably the best one so far in his career) in the three ultimate days, and gives the Dutch player 30 very, very welcomed points or so. That would hardly happen, but nevertheless it's a bit too early to declare Mr. Titman winner of the 3rd "Fabio's Fantasy Tour" Game.

And to declare Gavin Linnett as podium place (and relative DP's T-shirt) winner too! The South African kept his grip on the third spot in the Overall Standings, and a 30-point lead over closest pursuer Robert Haas, but lost two points to the GC leader(s) due to the absence of Vinokourov, something he could pay for also by losing third place to a dangerous rival such as Silvia Harper.

The best American is just one point down to Haas, and might move up into fourth after Friday's stage, but with Alexander Vinokourov in the roster, "Team Jajoni" may legitimately have the podium as main target. 31 points do not represent an unbridgeable gap after all, should the Kazakh make the most out of his Time-Trialling skills on Saturday. Harper retains a three-point advantage over the second best American player, Jim Klepper, but the gap will likely extend in the final days, as the absence of Iban Mayo should take its toll on "Team Oscar". Such that even Al Alvares' "CY-KOTIC", currently trailing six points behind, could eventually move ahead of it.

At the bottom of the Top 10 "Robasco", "KuffiCyclers" and "frankamo's" kept their positions and relative gaps, and so did Niko Hinz in 11th place. To find someone moving we gotta go down to spot #12, with Tim Oh's "Crouching Riders and Hidden Bicycles" gaining two places (thanks to ... you guessed it: Vinokourov again!), and consequently Matthias Jünemann and Scott Cairns losing one.

Thursday's stage win took Martin Kristensen to the edge of the Top 20, as the Dane is currently 21st, 3 points down to two Americans and four ahead of the best Aussie, Chris Tunnock. Stage runner-up Lexi Tejeda moved up 35 places into 43rd overall. Roy Drinkwater could "just" gain 15 places instead.

Many of last year's Fantasy Game winners are not having a particularly outstanding Tour. Michael Tierney (currently 68th) aside, we can find John Graham in 103rd place, and World Championships co-winner Jim Robson in 173rd., while TdF defending Champion Mike Barker is even in 331st place, with just a little more than 30 players behind him.

And among them there's "Red Lantern" Alan McFarlane. Thanks to Tyler Hamilton the Brit hit the stage Top 20 places and almost bridged the gap to Tam Ravenhill on Wednesday , but the next day "Denoyer" was unable to score any point whereas "Delta Pi Omicron" replied with a sensational sixth place in the stage, and took the gap back to previous values, or even more, as with three stages to go there's no less than 38 points between the two guys.
