Finally a bit (a lot in this case) of glory for the "Hamilton people". Previously overshadowed by the vast majority picking Armstrong (or even those selecting McEwen), players that chose the man from Marblehead as "A" rider benefitted from the extraordinary stage win of the CSC Team leader and captured all Top 6 Places in the Fantasy Tour's stage on Wednesday.

Needless to say, 30 points from the New Englander weren't enough to win the stage. And not even a 14-point help from his CSC squad was. The two contenders battling for stage victory, Ben Weston and Francine Latil, got a decisive help from Baden Cooke, solid leader in the Green Jersey Classification, who as usual provided them with half a dozen points. And one more time it was the "who posts first wins" Tie-breaking Rule that determined the winner, awarding Ben Weston his first stage victory, right ahead of a DP's Fantasy Games veteran like Francine Latil.

We had to resort to the same tie-breaking rule for the remaining podium place, as three different Virtual Teams got 46 points from the Hamilton-CSC-Vinokourov combination. Such that third place went to fastest poster Paul H. Finley and his "U.S. Pistol Service" Virtual Team, who hit the podium for the second time after Stage 10, when another CSC rider winning the stage (in that case it was Jakob Piil) helped him to get into the Top 3 and be awarded 5 Bonus Points in the GC.

Once a "Lanterne Rouge" American Chuck Wilkins hit a stage Top 10 for the third time, and even came close to climb onto the podium. Canada's Carlos Rodas snatched fifth and was the best-placed non-US contender in the stage, one point ahead of American Joe Walsh. Another veteran of the DP's Games, Denmark's Keld Haagensen, very successful in the past but having quite a poor performance in this competition before Wednesday, was the best-placed rider from outside North America, but also the best competitor without both Hamilton and CSC in the roster (that is a bit paradoxical for a Dane!). "BARAKA" got 45 points, courtesy of Luca Paolini (13), Glomser (10), Armstrong (9), Cooke (6), O'Grady (1) and USPS (6).

Russ MacDonald (who benefitted from Erik Zabel's best result so far in this TdF), Christopher S. Hurt, and Matt Haigh filled the other Top 10 Places in the stage, with Germany's Kevin Kempf following, and Sunday's runner-up Howard Joe having another excellent result. Thanks to Armstrong, Cooke, O'Grady and Team CSC, but notably Sandy Casar's first points, 2002 Fantasy Giro winner John Graham of Ireland may hit the Top 20 places, where we also saw the "comeback" of two protagonists of the Fantasy Tour's first half: Hans Tveitereid and Jaume Buqueras.

With ALL "A" Category riders getting points on Wednesday, nobody had that outrageous "0" as stage score this time. As usual the Tie-breaking Rules were applied to the Top 50 Virtual Teams in the Stage Classification only.
