Even though Jan Ullrich smoked all of his rivals in the ITT on the road, none of the Top 3 Virtual Teams in the Fantasy Game's Stage Classification featured him. Quite paradoxically, Stage 12 winner Phil "Filippo" Miano as well as podium place getters Andrew Titman and Dean Mueller benefitted from points from the biggest loser of Friday's battle (but definitely not of the war): Lance Armstrong. The current Yellow Jersey wearer, and still red hot favourite to take the title in Paris, provided the 291 players who picked him with 29 points, maybe not as many as some fans expected from him in an ITT, but surely enough to play a fundamental role in the victory of "GS Damiano Miano".

Mr. Miano got the first "Italian" victory in this edition of the game (actually "half-Italian" as Phil "Filippo" Miano is Italian-American) thanks to Armstrong, but also Vinokourov, whose performance in the ITT surprised many, and Basque sensation Haimar Zubeldia. Six points from the Yellow Jersey's Trade Team USPS did the rest.

He won the stage in a very hotly contested sprint finish though, as both Andrew Titman and Dean Muller came in just one point behind. The Britisth competitor hit the Top 10 for the fifth consecutive day (!!!) and was on the runner-up spot for the second time after losing to Jan Dijkstra (only because of the Tie-breaking rules) in Stage 9. But this time Tie-breaking rules were on his side: both "MayoNazon" and "Muellenstien" got 59 points thanks to the same riders (Armstrong, Vinokourov, Baden "The Captain" Cooke and Millar) and 6 from their respective Trade Teams (USPS and CSC), such that the "who posts first wins" rule proved decisive and awarded second place, and 15 Bonus Points in the GC, to faster poster Titman.

With the help of LA, Vinokourov, Cooke, Jaksche and USPS, Spain's Abraham Martínez González got into the Top 10 for the second straight day, even improving his Thursday's eighth placing. The best-placed Team featuring Jan Ullrich was "Team Kukulele", belonging to the first ever Slovakian player in the DP's Fantasy Games, Lubomir Kupanicak, who finished just ahead of American James Keenum (Team Tunnel Vision) as his best rider (Jan of course) got more points than Keenum's (LA).

"Kukulele" was also the ONLY Virtual Team with Jan Ullrich in the roster able to finish in the stage Top 10, as to find another one featuring the Team Bianchi rider we have to go down to spot #20 (Scotland's "Team Coach"). Besides Andrew Titman, also Holland's Jan Dijkstra got another Top 10 placing as he snatched 10th in the stage.

A German-dominated the stage on the road, but not here: to find someone from Germany we have to look into the "bunch" at 53 points, where there are six different Virtual Teams (three including Ullirch, the other half Armstrong as "A" rider) from that country, the best of which, Dominik Adams's "Team Coppi", couldn't get higher than 24th anyway.

All players managed to get at least one point on Friday. As usual the Tie-breaking Rules were applied to the Top 50 Virtual Teams in the Stage Classification only.

But the gap his closing. Whereas in the last stage "The Visitors" never were less than 40 points clear of the runner-up, now it has reduced to 36 points. Not to Armstrong though: unlike Lance, Walt lost many places on Friday and dropped to fifth overall; and with three mountain stages coming, it seems chances of on overall win are over for the sprinter-studded "Pommes de Couch" Virtual Team. In spite of this, it remains the best-placed American squad, 14 points ahead of the only other U.S. contender in the Top 10 overall, Amber McFarlane's "Hairy carpet"

The new runner-up, and one of the biggest GC threats, is indeed Britain's Andrew Titman. The man's sensational streak of great stage performances (5 consecutive times in the Top 10, and 30 Bonus Points) eventually paid off, and "MayoNazon" ascended into the runner-up place, with the help of Mayo and Nazon (Damien) of course, but also Cooke, Millar, Flickinger, USPS, iBanesto, and notably the two man making Titman one of the red hot favourites, namely Lance Armstrong and Alexandre Vinokourov.

Walt Armstrong wasn't the only player getting out of the podium on Friday. Norway's Hans Jacob Hofgaard did too. The "B33" team is not now to dropping out of the podium places, and in the past he proved able to regain them. But this time the Norwegian has moved down to eighth, such that it will be very very difficult for this protagonist of the Fantasy Tour's first half to get back into the Top 3 again.

And who benefitted most from this (Andrew Titman aside) ? Gavin Linnett of course. With Armstrong, Mayo, Cooke and USPS scoring point after point, "Khumbaya" was back onto the podium, just one point down to "Mayo Nazon". And this is the good news for the South African. But there's bad news too: Linnett has found a very, very strong rival such as Titman, whose team includes Cooke, LA, and Mayo but - unlike "Khumbaya" also Vinokourov. And the next performances form the Kazakh could become the deciding factor in the outcome of this game.

Linnett is a bit in trouble also in the other DP's game, the "Fabio's Fantasy Tour League", where he tied Friday's match and now has got to win both of his next one-on-one challenges in Round 2 (including Sunday's, against such as strong opponent as Scot Jahn), to keep his hopes of victory in this competition.

As for the rest of the Top 10, G.B. Van Gelderen (Holland - Robasco) moved one place up into fourth overall, and fellow countryman Jan Dijkstra keeps gaining positon after position. The 2001 Fantasy Tour winner is now sitting is sixth place. It was a good day for the "men in orange" from the Netherlands, but not for their German neighbours, in spite of Jan Ullrich's stage victory. Indeed both Moritz Kufferath and Robert Haas worsened their position in the Overall Ranking. Neither of them had Super Jan in the roster though. To find the best-placed team featuring Ullrich we had to go well outside the Top 100, with another German Virtual Team ("Dahms") sitting in 138th place.

No Virtual Teams got in or out the Top 10 anyway, although American Jim Klepper gained six places and is currently 11th, just 6 points down to Haas and AmberMcFarlane. Strangely enough, both most recent stage winners (Zach Hill and Phil Miano) are tied on the same score, 432 points.

And at the bottom of the peloton, Ullrich's extraordinary result earned Tam Ravenhill plenty of points, such that the "Lanterne Rouge" is back in the hands of Britain's Alan McFarlane.
