Results of the "Best Team Name Award", the contest traditionally linked to the DP's Fantasy Games and paying tribute to the most creative ones among FG contenders, to come soon.

The fact of being the only player with Stage Winner (on the road) Juan Antonio Flecha in the team's line-up definitely paid off, and Mr. Zach Hill got back to a stage victory (in the DP's Fantasy Games), two years after previous success in the 2001 Fantasy Tour (when Hill's "Team AK" won stage 18) and 14 months after he claimed Stage 5 in the 2002 Fantasy Giro d'Italia too. It looks like it's time for "comebacks", as also Jan Dijkstra got back to stage victory (better, TWO victories) a few days ago.

Of course Flecha alone would not have been enough for Hill's funny-named Virtual Team ("Fromage Malodorant", "Smelly Cheese") to take line honours on Thursday. The brave Spaniard (of Italian and Argentinian descent) did only half of the job, the rest being accomplished by points from his iBanesto.com Trade Team plus Armstrong and Stuart O'Grady.

And the absence of "Mr. Arrow" (who perfectly lived up to his name in the victory salute while crossing the line) in her team prevented one of the player that's doing best in the other DP's Tour-linked Game, the 1st "Fabio's Fantasy Tour League", from taking the stage. Indeed Lexi Tejeda's bunch of talented Aussies (Stuey, Baden Cooke and Deutschland Ttour champion Michael Rogers) provided "Ginger Snaps" with plenty of points, combined to the ones from Flecha's Banesto and the "Usual Suspects" Lance Armstrong and USPS. But they were not enough to match the power of the "Hill & Flecha" duo.

They proved enough to "outsprint" Jeff Fountain's "sixsteps" for second place (and 15 Bonus points in the GC) anyway. Indeed while both Tejeda and Fountain earned points from Armstrong, O'Grady, Cooke, iBanesto.com and USPS, Tejeda's "younger" combination (Menchov & Roger) gave her nine points, one more than Iban Mayo and Nicolas Portal did to the "sixsteps" Virtual Team.

Thursday's Top 4 made up of US-based contenders only was completed by another veteran of the DP's Fantasy things, Mike Edlin, who took part in several of our Games, and each time with the same Team name: "VELOWHIZ". Congratulations to him too, even if Edlin couldn't hit the stage podium this time.

The remainaing spots in the stage Top 10 were filled by players from six different European Union countries: Germany (Ralf Heeg), Portugal (José Pedro, already a stage podium finisher in this edition of the Fantasy Tour), Denmark (Keld Haagensen, finally back to some great performances), Spain (with Galician Abraham Martínez González) Holland (SuperJan Dijkstra again) and the UK (Andrew Titman one more time got into a stage Top 10), with Connecticut's Silvia Harper snatching 11th only, due to the Tie-breaking Rules.

Among other things worthy of mention are an Asian presence in the Top 15 (Singapore's Rajvinder Singh took 14th) and the excellent 19th placing of "rookie" Roman Trevisanut, who did much better than both Vaughn and Janna in this stage.

Just four Virtual Teams (from Canada, United States and Germany), the same ones as in the previous leg, did not score any stage point. As usual the Tie-breaking rules were applied to the Top 50 Virtual Teams in the Stage Classification only.

Such that one more time the big news of the day came from third place, with Norway's Hans Jacob Hofgaard back over the podium, after he got 5 more stage points than Gavin Linnet, and is now equalled with the South African in the GC. But the Tie-breaking rules awarded the podium spot to "B33": with absolute equality in their Top 2 Riders and best Trade Teams, the Norwegian's third best man (Robbie McEwen) has got three more points than Khumbaya's (Lance Armstrong).

Thursday was an unsually bad day for Linnett, as the man even surprisingly lost his one-on-one match in the Fantasy Tour League. A defeat he could pay dearly for in the League's economy. But as for this Game, with Mr. "drive-for-five" in his Virtual Team roster (whereas none of the top 3 placed guys picked LA), Linnett's position should get better after Friday's ITT and the next mountain stages.

Behind the four best-placed contenders are G.B. Van Gelderen, still keeping the hold on spot #5, and Germans Moritz Kufferath and Robert Haas, both moving up three places, and both enjoying 14 points from iBanesto.com in particular. Amber McFarlane is back in the Top 10 Overall, where also Andrew Titman and Jan Dijkstra finally managed to get, thanks to their recent continuous great stage performances.

While Hanemaayer, Armstrong (Walt!) and Hofgaard hold on, two other protagonists of the Fantasy Tour first half are now outside the Top 10: the very day his fellow countryman Flecha won the stage, Jaume Buqueras dropped to 12th overall, while Norway's Hans Tveitereid is even down to 16th. Al Alvares and Frank Mogavero moved outside the Top 10 too, while stage winner Zach Hill is in 145th place, in a worse position than Lexi Tejeda (currently 78th in the GC) and Jeff Fountain (a good 61st). Three Aussies (Craig Robertson, Mick Veal and Dave Arnold) are tied at 184 points instead.

As for the last place in the Overall Standings, Alan McFarlane got three more points from ONCE's Jörg Jaksche, currently second in the KOM Classification, and left the "Lanterne Rouge" to Tam Ravenhill (USA - Delta Pi Omicron virtual team).
