FANTASY SPRING: Paris-Roubaix: Virtual Teams Results and GC

1st FABIO'S FANTASY SPRING: Race #3 - "VIRTUAL PARIS-ROUBAIX" - RESULTS

BENELUX BEATS THE U.S. IN THE VIRTUAL RACE TOO: After Johan Museeuw's great triumph on the other main favorite for the race, USPS' Gerorge Hincapie, one may think, considering the great number of American participants (many of them actually picking the "Lion of Flanders" as their #1 choice), that the U.S. could take revenge in the "virtual version" of the race.

Instead America was denied the (somehow expected) victory in the virtual race too. And once more by a participant coming from Benelux: this time it was a Dutchman, Remo Kaasenbrood from the Netherlands, who got a record score of no less than 172 POINTS (!!!) courtesy of winning choices such as Museeuw and Wesemann, as well as Hoffman and Domo's Cassani. Even his Trade Teams choices proved good, as he picked Domo (20 points) and Team Coast (1). Holland's great day was completed by Johan Koedijker's fourth place. The "choca dré" team got the same number of points as the race's runner-up (Joe Coughlin's Fasso Fan team) and third place getter "High Hopes" belonging to John Driscoll. But the two virtual teams from the U.S. got the two remaining podium places thanks to the tie-breaking rules (which you can find in the "rules" page of the "Fantasy Games" section).

Besides Holland, also Denmark had good performances, with David Holm taking sixth just behind U-S.-based (presumed) Dane Per Thiesen, in spite neither of them picked Museeuw in their line-ups, instead opting for Hincapie. Another results worthy of mention is Rabun Kosar's ninth place, that allowed a country not exactly famous for its cycling tradition (Turkey) to get into Top 10. Bravo Rabun !!! Other teams from Europe and Canada are in the TOP 20.

As for the Overall Leader after 2 races, Andre Umali from The Phlippines have a worse performance than the two previous times, as "spring chicken run" got only 62 points and ranked ... 62th (that must not be his lucky number though ...) also losing the "all-Asian match" against Singapore's "newcomer" Rajvinder Singh. American John Eicherberger (runner-up to Umali after 2 races) didn't perfrom better, as he got 57 points only. Good result by another newcomer to the game instead, Craig Cheesman, whose "Adirondack Highlanders" squad ranked eighth thanks to Wesemann, Boonen, Hincapie and the two Trade Teams. Unfortunately Tour of Flanders' winner Les Nadon didn't take part in this race.

Some teams have not been accepted as they were sent BEFORE or AFTER the dealine, others sent two teams (only the first of them was accepted). Others played with a lesser number of riders as some of their selected riders didn't took the start, and there were no (or not enough) reserve riders in their teams. One team's name has been modified as it didn't follow the rules for the choice of your team names.

1st FABIO'S FANTASY SPRING:
OVERALL RANKINGS AFTER Race #3 - "VIRTUAL PARIS-ROUBAIX" -

A clash of Nations with Euros in the lead: European contenders seems to dominate both the real and the "virtual Spring Classics" now. If Johann Museeuw both won the Paris-Roubaix and took the UCI World Cup Overall Leadership, his "Fantasy Spring" counterpart, Holland's Remo Kaasenbrood ("San Remo"), did the same thing in the game. Not only he won the "Virtual P-R", but also took over the Fantasy Spring's leadership from Andre Umali, the Filipino contender who moved down to 12th place.

Mr. Kaasenbrood's 172 points (more than the sum of what he got in the two previous races) were enough to earn him the overall lead, with a 38-point advantage on another European, Denmark's David Holm ("Giorgino"). The main American challenger to European duo is NYC's David Rose (40 points down on GC), with fellow countryman Patrick B. Sharp currently ranked 4th.

But the Fantasy Spring TOP 10 looks like a U.N. General Assembly, with also a Canadian, a Turk (!!!) an Ireland-based Belgian, a PuertoRican living in the U.S. and a Scotsman. Plus a Danish Virtual team in eleventh place, followed by The Philippines's Umali. Former runner-up John Eicherberger dropped to 20th place, while Portugal's Pedro Martins is currently 28th.

Very Bad luck for America's Ben Foote, who took part in two Fantasy Spring legs out of three, but all he got was ... 1 single point. Best wishes to him for the next races. In the meantime both Emily King and Troy Pathon scored their first points in the game.

The currently best-placed contender among those who participated to Race #1 only remains Christine from Germany, with 93 points earned in MSR. 8 Teams have not scored any point yet. But all 135 vitual teams who registered for Milan-San Remo still can compete for the overall victory.

The numbers in brackets refer to the points scored by each participant in every single race: Milan-San Remo, Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix respectively.

37 more participants did not enter their team for Milan-San Remo and consequently can't compete for the "Fantasy Spring" overall victory. But nonetheless they took part in the following races of the games, competing for "stage victory", what American Les Nadon got in the "Virtual Tour of Flanders".

So, just in order to to satisfy your curiosity, here are the TOTAL SCORES of each of the 37 participants officially out of competition. The number in brackets is referring to the numbers of Fantasy Spring races they took part in.
