Wachovia to Award $2000 to Charities

Lancaster, PA - The Wachovia Cycling Series and Dream Ride Projects announced today at a press conference at Lancaster Square the pairing of the Lancaster County charities participating in Dream Ride 2003 with professional cycling teams racing in the June 5th Wachovia Cycling Series-Lancaster. Local charities "adopted" one of the teams and will display support and enthusiasm throughout the race for their randomly selected team. Wachovia is donating $2,000.00 in prize money to the charities with teams placing in the top five ($1,000 for top finisher, $500-2nd, $250-3rd, $150-4th & $100-5th with charity matches).

There are a record number of teams, 22 in all, in the 2003 Wachovia Cycling Series, therefore, 10 teams were not matched at random with a charity. It was agreed that if they were to have a finisher in the top five, the team placing next with an adopted charity, would be the winner of contribution.  

The four-race Wachovia Cycling Series, America's Elite Week of Cycling, is set for June 3-8, 2003. Professional men's teams will compete in Lancaster on June 3rd at 4:30 p.m., Trenton on June 5th at 4:30 p.m. and Philadelphia on June 8th at 9:00 a.m. The pro women's race is June 8th at 9:10 a.m. The Wachovia Cycling Series is a key sequence of events within the seven-race nationwide Pro Cycling Tour (PCT). The PCT is managed by Threshold Sports and sanctioned by USA Cycling.
