Certainly very happy, the winner Michele Gobbi, who has signed the second success of the season for the Team De Nardi Colpack Astro (the first victory was hit by Giuseppe Palumbo, 2nd stage of the "Giro della Liguria"), who has declared:
“It has been a big emotion, finally, after many efforts the first victory of my career as professional is arrived. Everything was good since the beginning of the race, my "captain" Honchar, has been proved of great help to me, always staying next to me during the race and allowing me to be successful during the most important actions".
"In view of the "pink event" - continues Gobbi – the team seems ready, this appointment in Trentino has confirmed that there are all the cards to impose ourselves and maybe to win some stages and will be certain that we will try this. The "Giro d’Italia" remains my dream. For the moment, I enjoy myself for this recent happiness, satisfied to have achieved my first victory as professional, most of all in an appointment where big cycling champions as Garzelli and Simoni have dominated.”

Will lead the boys in blue, the 2000 ITT World Champion, has a proud record in the Giro d’Italia. 5th in 1997, 10th in 1998, 7th in 1999, 9th in 2000, 4th in 2001 and 23rd last year, the man from Rovno Ukraine will be looking to continue that great record in this years race.
Once again Honchar is current time trial champion of Ukraine - which is not easy when you see who he beat - Bogdan Bondariew, Sergei Matveyev, Yuriy Krivtsov. Aleksandr Klimienko, and Yaroslav Popovych.
Tough as old boots, and boots that can climb, roll, and time trial, Honchar will be hoping for a top five place.
26/04/78 York - Charly Wegelius had the honour of riding for the biggest and most successful team in professional road racing, the Italian giants Mapei, whom he rode with for three seasons. When the Mapei team closed its doors Charly joined the De Nardi Colpack Astro team. Hills and Time Trials are both strong elements of this talented rider's qualities. Charly won a silver medal in the European Championships Time Trial in 1999 and will be hoping that this Giro is a showcase for his talents.
Despite joining the pro ranks at a relatively late age of 28, Aug had so far accumulated a total of 14 victories, some of it coming from top-rank races. Aug's major achievement last year include stage wins in the Grand Premio Nobili Rubinetterie (ranked 1.3), Trophy Porec (1.5), Sprints Competition in Settimana Ciclista Lombarda (2.3), Tour of Poland (2.2), Peace Race (2.2), Course de la Solidarite Olympique (2.3), Tour of Slovakia (2.5) and Croatia's Jadranska Magistrala (2.5).
However, the competition is somewhat stiffer in the Giro and it will be interesting to see if Aug can make that transformation.
Described by Carly Wegelius as the “Forest Grump” of cycling , Guiseppe Palumbo, formerly of Amica-Chips, is nevertheless a tough rider - in 2002 he won GP Kanton Aargau (1.1) in June and the Metas Volantes Competition in Vuelta Asturias (2.3) in May and backed that up with a very solid win in the Giro della Liguria this year.
