Live Ticker - "La Doyenne"?

Good Afternoon and welcome to the live ticker - please remember to press F5 to refresh the page.

We join the race with 142.5 kilometres covered and 115 km to go there is a break of riders at the front of the race with a 6 minute advantage on the peloton on a windy, rainy day - the four leaders are Vaugrenard Benot (57) FDJeux.com, Pinotti Marco (84) Lampre, Elmiger Martin (183) Phonak, Pena Victor Hugo (125) US Postal.

Behind these four men are Van Haecke Michel (248) Palmans-Collstrop, Streel Marc (240) Landbouwkrediet, and Van De Wouwer Kurt (26) QuickStep, who are about 50 seconds back.

The peloton is being driven by the Saeco duo of Andrea Tonti and Stefano Zanini - so advantage Armstrong at the moment who has team mate Pena down the road so he can hide in the peloton's shelter with his team; it will be up to the Saeco, Rabobank and Fassa teams to chase down.

103 km to go: The lead group are on the Cte de Wanne, the first of the ten categorised climbs, which are:

Km 81,8 Cte Saint-Roch 1,5 km 7,4%

Km 153,8 Cte de Wanne 2,8 km 4,9%

Km 170,6 Cte de Stockeu 2,5 km 9,6%

Km 175 Cte de Wanneranval 1,4 km 10,7%

Km 194 Cte du Rosier 4 km 5,9%

Km 206,3 Cte de la Vecque 3,2 km 7,8%

Km 223,5 Cte de la Redoute 2,3 km 7%

Km 229 Cte de Sprimont 1,5 km 3,3%

Km 244 Cte du Sart-Tilman 3,7 km 5,9%

Km 252,5 Cte de Saint-Nicolas 0,9 km 6,7%

110 km to go: The chasing group of Marc Streel are now within 30 seconds of the leading group - who are still around 6 minutes ahead of the peloton.

100km to go: The Euskatel-driven peloton has brought the gap down very quickly as the Cote de Wanne has its effect; the gap has dropped to 40 seconds and Paolini has bridged the gap.

Several riders have bridged to the front group which now contains Pena, Elmiger, Pinotti, Glomser, Paolini, Sorensen, Julich, Zberg, Marzoli, Blts, Peron, Duma, as the riders approach the famous climb of the Cte de Stockeu.

99 km to go: Elminger, Pena and Pinotti are in difficulty on the cte de Stockeu -

87 km to go: Pena and Pinotti are brought back by the peloton, Elmiger is also "lach" - dropped the leaders now are Glomser, Paolini, Sorensen, Julich, Zberg, Marzoli, Blts, Peron, Duma.

83 km to go: Over the Cte de Wanneranval and it is Cofidis who lead the peloton, once again Fassa have failed to get some one in the break who have a 40 second advantage.

The wind will have an effect on the riders, it will be a hard man's race.

80 km to go: Pena and Elmiger are dropped by the main peloton - obviously the wind has taken its toll on them. The gap is now 35 seconds.

77 kilometres to go: Patrick Lefevere is confident that VDB is in good form for this race. Once again, the Telekom boys are seeing a great ride by Julich - who has done superb work for his team so far this season - also in the break Udo Blts (Gerolsteiner) - there are not many riders tougher than him!

75 kilometres to go: The peloton is very strung out, the leaders obviously do not want a repeat of the Fleche Walloone - the leaders Glomser (Saeco), Luca Paolini (Quick Step), Julich, Zberg, Ruggero Marzoli (Alessio), Udo Blts (Gerolsteiner), Andrea Peron (CSC), Sorensen and Volodymyr Duma (Landbouwkrediet)have a 37''' advantage - while Boogerd punctures and Merckx and Vasseur amongst others try to attack.

72 kilometres to go: Shefer (Saeco) and Serrano (ONCE) have attacked with Aerts (Telekom) and Unai Extebarria (Euskatel).

70 km to go: Other riders are bridging to the Aerts group, while Leipheimer is bringing Boogerd back into the peloton following his puncture.

Cte du Rosier: Lampre and Ccoast now lead the peloton which is closing the gap on the front riders; the gap is down to 13 seconds.

66 km to go: Chavanel and Van Petegem are dropped on the climb, the gap is down to 10 seconds.

Casagrande attacks!

Casagrande bridges to the front group; Kessler, Unai Etxebarria, Serrano, Mazoleni and Shefer had already made it across - but the peloton immediately reponds and pulls everyone back together. There was no way, at this stage of the race, that such a dangerous group be allowed to be at the front of affairs.

64 km to go: Merckx Axel (Lotto-Domo) attacks.

He is brough back just before the peloton goes through the second feed zone at La Gleize - Stoumont.

57 km to go: Both Rumsas and Baguet have a little attack but the peloton is back together- now Vasseur tries an attack too - he is also brought back.

52 km to go: Cte de la Vecque - Mason Oscar (Sidermec) attacks - but he is brought back - Van Petegem is not looking very happy, it looks unlikely to be his day today.

50 km to go: Verbrugghe is also not looking too happy at the back of the bunch.

49 km to go: The peloton is one long coloured ribbon as an attack by Moreau, Sastre, Pascual Rodriguez, Freire, Beltran, Dufaux, Vinokourov and Celestino, with Merckx chasing from at the front.

4-5 men in the lead, now tackling the Redoute climb - 35 k to go. One of the leaders is Wednesday's winner Astarloa. Others are Merckx, and Vicioso and ?? Back in peloton, Hamilton attacks, followed by Boogerd, Di Luca, and the rest of the peloton.

Five leaders now - Astarloa, Vicioso, Merckx, Moreni and Gerolsteiner's Wegmann.

It has started raining at the finishing line now. The peloton is 23" down to the leaders, they (the chasers) gained 15 secs. over the Redoute.

Iban Mayo attacks now, while the 5 leaders are tackling the 1.9-km. Cote de Sprimont.

Mayo still keeps a slight lead over the rest of the peloton.

31 km to go: Astarloa, Merckx, Wegmann, Vicioso and Moreni still leading the first chasing bunch by 20".

Wegmann now struggling to stay on the wheels of his breakaway mates on the Sprimont. Wegmann has lost contact.

Armstrong, Bartoli, Di Luca and other red hot favourites still up front, but no team is chasing seriously now. It's Axel Merckx on a solo break.

Merckx 20 seconds ahead of the chasing group - Di Luca, Wegmann, Astarloa, Vicioso, Moreni Armstrong, Celestino, Casagrande, Hamilton, Shefer, Mazzoleni, Sanchez; the peloton 10 seconds behind them.

Bartoli bridges the gap, it is now a very strong group - Di Luca Danilo, Wegmann Fabian, Bartoli Michele, Astarloa Igor, Vicioso Angel Moreni Cristian, Armstrong Lance, Celestino Mirko, Casagrande Francesco, Hamilton Tyler, Shefer Alexandr Mazzoleni Eddy, Sanchez Samuel.

Armstrong punctures!

Merckx has 16 seconds on Di Luca Danilo, Bartoli Michele, Astarloa Igor, Vicioso Angel, Moreni Cristian Celestino Mirko, Casagrande Francesco, Hamilton Tyler, Shefer Alexandr, Mazzoleni Eddy, Sanchez Samuel Albasini Michaele - Armstrong a little behind, the peloton 12 seconds back from the second group.

Bartoli Michele (41) Fassa Bortolo Moreni Cristian (76) Alessio attack the second group.

Five riders chasing Merckx - Armstrong, Bartoli, Sanchez, Moreni and Shefer. Armstrong has made it back.

The gap is down to 12" now, while Hamilton got dropped.

Hamilton, Astarloa, Di Luca and the other chasers are 34" down to Merckx now. Merckx now tackling Cotee du Sart Tilman (gradient 5.3 %).

The 5 chasers are working well together.

Cte du Sart-Tilman 3,7 km 5,9%: the gap is closing on Merckx down to 7 seconds while the Armstrong group have a 21 second gap on the chasers. 17 km to go. Bartoli and Armstrong obviously doing most of the work in the 5-man chasing group.

Armstrong and Bartoli caught Merckx! Moreni and Merckx got dropped now, 4 in the lead.

Armstrong leads the race - he is chased by Bartoli, Shefer, Sanchez and Moreni. CSC's Sastre setting the pace behind in the peloton.

Bartoli seems in trouble, it is Shefer and Mayo following Armstrong. But the peloton cut the gap down to 20"!

Ullrich is seen at the front of the 25-strong chasing peloton now! 15 to go, the gap is 28" now.

Moreni caught by the chasing peloton. Sanchez and Armstrong now talking. Armstrong, Shefer and Sanchez have 10 seconds on Bartoli - the leading trio across the top of Cote du Sart-Tilman, 14k to go.

Shefer took third on Wednesday.

Moreni Cristian, Merckx Axel, Di Luca Danilo, Astarloa Igor, Vicioso Angel Celestino Mirko, Casagrande Francesco, Hamilton Tyler, Mazzoleni Eddy, Albasini Michael, Dufaux Laurent Vandenbroucke Frank, Ullrich Jan are the leading chasing riders.

The leading trio working well together, now riding at 70 km/h.

Great ride by the youngster Samuel Sanchez - 2nd in the Paris Nice young rider competition and an excellent climber. The trio is gettimg close to the Saint-Nicholas climb, where Armstrong will likely attack.

Behind, the peloton is regrouping. Only Bartoli now in no man's land.

In the peloton, no team has seriously taken the chase in its hands, and the gap is 25" now.

7k to go. 16" the gap.

The peloton has gained a few seconds over the leaders. They all are on the Sint Nicolas climb (1k, gradient 7 to 11%).

The trio has been caught!!!!

VDB leads the chase, Boogerd is the first to join Armstrong, Sanchez and Shefer. Armstrong tries to attack again.

Still Sanchez on his wheels. Scarponi in 4th place now - SCARPONI ATTACKS!!!

Technical difficulties - our apologies. We now bring you the rest of the ticker.

4-5 guys follow. Now it's Boogerd countering. Ullrich is dropped, ARMSTRONG DROPPED. Sanchez and Mayo now attacking.

6k to go.

Now it's Boogerd gaining a few meters on wet roads. Boogerd put some 100 metres into the rest of the field.

Boogerd was caught. A group of 7-8 now in the lead. More and more attacks coming... impossible to follow them all.

Hamilton on the ascent now, Mayo and Boggerd trying to chase him down. A little more than 1k to go.

Hamilton struggling on the ascent...Mayo and Boogerd still chasing.

It's Hamilton, Mayo, Boogerd. 300 M TO GO!

And it's 1. Hamilton, 2. Mayo, 3. Boogerd!!!!!

4. Scarponi, 5. Casagrande, 6. Sanchez.

Armstrong crossing the line now.

Thank you for joining us for this great Spring Classic!
