1st FABIO'S FANTASY SPRING:
Race #2 - "VIRTUAL TOUR OF FLANDERS" - RESULTS

The winner of the "Virtual Tour of Flanders" is a "newcomer" to the game: Les Nadon from the U.S.. Indeed "Les' Team" scored 130 points, thanks to winning choices such as Andrea Tafi (60 points), Hincapie (33) Cipollini (15), Zabel (12), Robert Hunter (7) and the USPS team (3). A great victory for Les who scored 5 points more than the Milan-San Remo winner did two weeks ago.

Nadon's win saved the U.S. (where more than 80% of the participants come from) from another bad result, after the two best-placed riders in MSR were from outside the States. Indeed second-placed in the Tour of Flanders was not an American but a Scotsman, David Graham whose "Carpet tiles and Chips" team got 121 points (courtesy of an Italo-Belgian connection featuring Tafi and Museeuw, Jo Planckaert and the Lotto-Adecco Trade Team). And the remaining "podium spot" was taken by a Puertorican, Josue' Nazario, whose ... "Josue' Nazario" team earned just one point less than mr. Graham: 120 points, thanks to Van Petegem (38) Nardello (28) Sorensen (24), people favorite Jo Planckaert (9) and Mapei-Quick Step (21). The "Best Team Name Award" winner, Alex "Lion of Doncaster" Ball, was also the best-placed English competitor.

Milan-San Remo's winner Andre Umali from the Philippines took 48th place only, with 64 points, while MSR's runner-up, Portugal's Pedro Martins (Vela), was 63th with 56 points. The "Los Angeles match" (not Lakers vs. Clippers though, just Janna Trevisanut vs. Jaime Nichols, or Manhattan Beach vs. Hollywood if you prefer) ended in a draw, although the tie-break rules gave the "victory" to Mrs. Nichols. Unlike the previous race, this time all contenders got some points. The "lanterne rouge" of today's race was Doris Herman, who got an Excellent second spot in the "Best Team Name Award" competition, but whose "Wind Drinkers" didn't perform that well in the "Fantasy Tour of Flanders". Best wishes to her for the next race (Paris-Roubaix).

Unfortunatley some teams have not been accepted, either because the riders weren't selected according to the rules, or they were posted after the deadline. Deeply Sorry for them, but nonetheless they'll have a chance to participate in next Sunday's Paris-Roubaix.

Below you can finde the Virtual Teams GC after Stage 2. Only players who registered for Milan-San Remo Including the ones that didn't take part in Tour of Flanders) may compete for the Overall win though. As for the "newcomers", including the "Virtual Tour of Flanders" winner, they were competing for the stage victory only (and they have the chance to do it again in the three coming races of Fabio's Fantasy Spring). And seems that Les Nadon did it the best possible way. Congrats again to Les Nadon !!!!

1st FABIO'S FANTASY SPRING:
VIRTUAL TEAMS CLASSIFICATION after TOUR OF FLANDERS

Andre Umali Retains Overall Lead: Despite ranking only 48th (out of 95 participants) in the "Virtual Tour of Flanders", Andre "deedee" Umali from The Philippines kept the Overall Lead even after race 2 of "Fabio's Fantasy Spring". 64 points were enough for the only contender from the Far East to keep a slim (8 points) margin over the current runner-up, John Eichberger from the U.S., who has got 181 points so far. Two more Americans are chasing mr. Umali: Patrick B. Sharp and New Yorker David Rose.

Former Overall Runner-up, namely Portugal's J. Pedro Martins, dropped to fifte place instead, while the best scorer among those who can compete for the overall, namely Scotland's David Graham, moved up to sixth. Two more Europeans (Peter Lind and Remo Kaasenbrood) are in the TOP 10 places, where you can find perfect draw (5-5) between the States and the rest of the World (something quite strange if you consider that more than 80% of the participants are from the U.S.).

Other players too, such as Puertorican Josué Nazario (now 15th Overall) and America's Chuck Hudak (from 0 points in MSR to 117 in RVV !!!), had a good result in Sunday's race, while Francine Latil and Jaime "crazyjane" Nichols continue to go "hand in hand", as both earned 19 points in MSR, and both earned 45 points in the Flemish race. The same for a trio made up of Moritz Mehlem, Chuck Taylor and Rim Ryan: none of them scored any point in the "Virtual Milan-San Remo", ALL of them got 57 points in Sunday's competition.

74 players took part in both MSR and Tour of Flanders, while 61 participated to the Italian race only. They are still competing for the Overall Victory, anyway, and they all have the chance to take part in the coming races (Paris-Roubaix, LBL, Amstel Gold Race). The best-placed among them is Germany's Christine, who got 93 points in the "virtual Milan-San Remo". Deeply sorry for current "lanterne rouge" Troy Pathon, but the "mundus imaginalis" line-up was sent well after the deadline, so the teams couldn't take part in the race. See you in next week's Paris-Roubaix.

Here is also the ranking of the 22 "newcomers" who took part in the Fantasy Spring " for the first time. Unfortunately, as they missed Milan-San Remo, none of them will be able to compete for the overall victory, but nonetheless they can go for the "stage win", and that's what Les Nadon (from the United States) actually did, also setting the new record score: 130 points.
Here are all remaining places:

Les Nadon - Les' Team - U.S.A. - 130 points

That's all for the moment. See you on Sunday's "Fantasy Paris-Roubaix". Hope to find you all again in the coming, third leg of "Fabio's Fantasy Spring", where Andre Umali will be trying to defend his leadership from the American (and Portuguese, and Dutch, and Danish and ...) attacks. Of course more "new comers" in the game, aiming to follow Les Nadon's steps, are always welcomed.

Details about the "Fantasy Paris-Roubaix" (whose deadline for entering teams will likely be on Sunday at 10 AM Italian time) online in a couple of days. In the meantime, if you want to give your point of view, express your opnion and thoughts about the Fantasy Game and the results, just click on the "Fantasy Games" link (left side of the screen) and go to the game's Message Board.
