VAN PETEGM WINS 3 DAYS OF DE PANNE! He just won the time trial. Zanini, leader of the race at the beginning of the stage finished 6th with 17m28s. Van Petegem raced a wonderfull time trial: 14 km in 17 minutes sharp, that makes 49km per hour if I calculated correctly. Stay tuned on the Daily Pelton as more news will be posted later on the day.
15.31: PETER VAN PETEGEM will most likely win the stage and the overall. He clocked 17 minutes sharp, 17 seconds faster than the number two so far Hincapie. The only one still to come in is Zanini, but it is doubtfull that he will be able to beat that time. He has to stay within 6 seconds to keep his lead.
15.28: Bodrogi only finishes 13th, he raced on a normal bike with a full rear wheel.
15.26: Nico Eeckhout also clocked a good time, 17m22, so the new number two. Hincapie still number one and third now is CAsey.
15.22 Robert Hunter just clocked a time of 17m31, third up till now. Very good!
15.11 The top 3 of the overal classification will now start the time trial. Bodrogi just left and with only 31 seconds behind on Zanini, he might well be in for the overall victory.
15.10 And now George Hincapie of US Postal has improved CAsey's time: 17.17 and so the number one for now.
15.08: Others also arrived by now and changed the top results:
1. Casey 17m28
2. Nico Mattan 17.38
3. Knaven 17.40
4. Tom Boonen 17.40
14.55 Knaven (Domo) is the new number two so far.
1. Casey 17m28s
2. Knaven 17m40s
3. Wauters 17m50s
14.52: Two US Postals just left. First Tom Boonen (Belgian) and now Gearge Hincapie. He looks in great shape.
14.42: Prelimenary top 5: Dylan Casey, Marc Wauters, Wiggins, Nardello, Leif Hoste.
14.35: Marc wauters finished with a time of 17m41s. That is not better than Casey, but he is second so far. Not bad at all.
14.32: The overall classification is as follows after the stage of this morning, which was won by Baldato:
1 Stefano Zanini (Ita)
2 Peter Van Petegem (Bel) 0.06
3 Laszlo Bodrogi (Hun) 0.31
4 Saulius Ruskys (Ltu) 0.40
5 Tom Steels (Bel) 0.44
6 Ludo Dierckxsens (Bel) 0.45
7 Niko Eeckhout (Bel) 0.46
8 Robert Hunter (RSA) 0.47
Zanini can only give in 6 seconds to Van Petegem or he loses the lead. Will he be able to win the 3 Days of de Panne for a second time?
14.26: The time trial is one of 14 km. Short so even the non-specialist can have a good result here.
14.25:Zanini is the leader in the overall for the moment and Van Petegem is really close.
14.23: For now, the American Casey is in the lead and Filip Meirhaeghe (Bel) was 14 seconds slower than the leader. He has taken silver in Sydney in mountainbike.
14.22: And her we go for the live coverage of the time trial in the three days of De Panne. Sorry for the delay.
13.00: stay tuned as live coverage will start in about one hour.
