Track - Six Days of Dortmund: Final Results

Great final win for the "Andreas & Andreas" pair: German Kappes and Beikirch put one lap into their closest challengers on the ultimate night of competition and eventually moved into the top spot, with main favourites Rolf Aldag (GER) and Silvio Martinello (ITA) finishing second overall despite being the top-scorers of the event.

Third place for Switzerland's Bruno Risi and Kurt Betschart, who couldn't improve their record of six-day wins, while Australians Stuart O'Grady and Scott McGrory missed a podium place. American Marthy Nothstein and Belgium's Matt Gilmore took fifth.

It was the first-ever six-day win for Beikirch, and the first one in Dortmund's "Westfalenhalle" (but the twenty-third so far in his career) for 36-year-old (37 in December) Kappes too.

Not such good news for Britain instead, as World Champion Chris Newton and teammate Brad Wiggins finished in 14th place out of 15 contenders. Jens Lehmann had even worse luck: the German Olympic Champion, who was forced out of competition due to a crash last year, finished last (along with compatriot Sebastian Siedler) this time.

Carsten Podlesch of Germany, usually riding for Team Wiesenhof, and Bruno Walrave of Holland repeated last year's victory in the contest for Stayers, as they "outsprinted" Switzerland's Peter Jörg and René Aebi (the latter improved his third placing of the past edition anyway) on Tuesday night.
