| New change at the top of the ranking as the competition hits halfway point: main favorites Rolf Aldag (Germany) and Silvio Martinello (Italy) finally moved up into first place, and are currently one lap ahead or runner-ups Stuart O'Grady and Scott McGrory. Also the all-Australian duo gained two places by moving from fourth to second.
Bad news for former leaders Kappes and Beikirch (the Germans were down to third overall), and even worse for the "Alpenexpress": Switzerland's Bruno Risi and Kurt Betschart are now out of all podium spots. But with both the Aussies and the Germans close to gaining a bonus lap, the General Classification could undergo further changes after Sunday's session.
American Marty Nothstein and Belgian teammate Matthew Gilmore gained one place and moved up to fifth, but they are still far from the top spots. Brits Newton and Wiggins remained in the bottom places.
Two German riders kept the lead in the Stayers contest.
