Kiwi George Bennett wins the Amgen Tour of California

George Bennett (Team LottoNL-Jumbo) took the biggest win of his pro career at the 2017 Amgen Tour of California finishing atop the GC 35" ahead of Rafal Majka (Bora-Hansgrohe) with Andrew Talensky (Cannondale-Drapac) preserving local honour with the third spot.

Bennett leapt into second spot on GC on Stage 2 (Modesto-San Jose) as runner up to stage winner Majka. Majka held on to top spot until the 24km ITT on Stage 6. While the time trial was won by Sky's Jonathan Dibben it was a fourth place by Bennett, 41" faster than Majka that saw a change in lead.

The final stage, 125km form Mountain High to Pasadena, won by Evan Huffman (Rally Cycling) from a five man break, did nothing to disturb the final rankings.
