Product Review: Barefooters Kilkee Sandal

I knew about the Barefooters product line prior to stumbling upon them during the Chicago Half Marathon expo back in July. I wanted to test the product myself then share the results with our readers and below are my findings.

Barefooters makes two models, the Classic, which looks a little like a rubber sneaker (almost like Crocs products), and the Kilkee, which looks like a hand woven sandal but it is made of synthetic material.

As far as fit, I found the Barefooters to be very comfortable while wearing them sock-less. I have narrow feet and thought they were the most form-fitting for my feet and had good arch support. The support came mainly from a foot bed insert that is made of synthetics and cork material.

I used the Barefooters after long cycling rides, running and for walking around town. I clocked in more than 20 hours and still love them.

The manufacturer suggests increasing the time spent in the sandal gradually. I ignored those warning and wore them for over eight hours straight and was surprised of its comfort.

Benefits and Criticisms

Pros: A comfortable casual sandal that is hand washable, light weight, odorless and available in multiple colors.

Cons: Individuals with wider feet likely would have to move up a size because the sandal has a snug fit; however, its design provided a good amount of ventilation. The material is not moisture wicking so heavy foot sweaters -- stay away!

If I wanted to wear them in cooler weather with socks then I would have to move to the next size up because they were extremely tight with socks on. However, I do believe that the intension of this sandal is for summer wear.

Performance/Overall Impression

The Barefooters Kilkee will leave your feet feeling as great and the fit definitely for someone like me who has narrow feet but enjoy a sandal with a wider toe box.

This women's fisherman sandal features a CorksLite upper. CorksLite is crafted with remarkable environmentally friendly material that combines physical properties of cork and silicone so that your walk feels natural. The LX Relax insole is removable and helps keep your feet feeling nice and comfortable. This Barefooters sandal also has a CorksLite outsole.

I experienced no blisters or foot pain while wearing the Barefooters Kilkee even when I wore them in temperatures upward of 80F/27C. To further experience the comfort, I even dashed to catch the bus and wished they could be worn as running footwear.
