25 April 2013: Stage 4 : Lalín/a Estrada to Finisterra, 189 km, Daniel MORENO wins 'End of the Earth' Stage, while Vicenzo Nibali reclaimed the lead

Daniel Moreno (Katusha) outsprinted Fabian Cancellara (Leopard Trek) to win stage 5 in Finisterra, literally translated as 'End of the Earth'. Overnight leader Chris Horner found himself in a group just six seconds behind the winners, but that lead group contained Vicenzo Nibali who slipped ahead back into the lead. It actually came down to a 1.01 second gap between 21 and 22nd places which menat Horner's actual finishing time in 26th spot had to be taken inot account.

1st Daniel Moreno
2nd Fabian Cancellara
3rd Michael Matthews
4th Gianni Meersman
5th Bauke Mollema

Chris Horner was sanguine about the loss of the lead:  “It was a beautiful stage, but there was a small gap at the end and that happens sometimes. For me it’s no big problem since now I can finish the stage, return to the bus, shower, relax and prepare for the next stage.  There is only a small time difference of three seconds so we will try to take the jersey again when we go to the mountains.  I’m going to always remember yesterday and how it felt to take the jersey but the important day to have it is at the end.  It’s not ideal for the sponsors to lose the jersey of course, but it’s ok for now and I will use my good legs to get it back.  I plan to have a fantastic Vuelta.”

A five man break went clear after 12km of racing on the 189km route from Lalín / a Estrada to Fisterra, an area once considered ‘the end of the world’ by pilgrims making their way to the seaside of the furthest point of land in western Spain.  The break’s efforts fell apart on the punchy climb located 30km from the finish with the last rider finally brought back at 15km to go under the efforts of RADIOSHACK LEOPARD TREK.   Horner’s teammates showed total control and strength at the front of the peloton throughout the day.
