After this climb Spratt had to drop from the leading group in order to help her teammates in the bunch to protect the lead of Judith Arndt.
After 50 km of racing Orica-AIS got some help of Specialized-Lululemon and the gap started to come down. With 25 km to go the gap was down to 1.05. On the final climb of the day Longo-Borghini crossed the top as first and as she gathered enough points on the climbs during the stage the Italian takes over the KOM jersey from Claudia Häusler.
