| Belgian Classic king, Tom Boonen of Omega Pharma - Quick-Step continued his remarkable 2012 racing season at the 2012 Belgian national road championships Sunday, where he claimed his 2nd national road race title after previously being the Belgian national road champion in 2009. Boonen easily out sprinted Kristof Goddaert (AG2R-La Mondiale) and Sven Vandousselaere (Topsport Vlaanderen - Mercator).
Boonen made the race winning move with 40 kilometers remaining in the race while co-favorite Jurgen Roelandts of Lotto-Belisol was experiencing a mechanical on his bike, Boonen was joined by his teammate Julien Vermote as well as four other riders escaped the peloton and managed to keep Roelandts and defending road champion, Philippe Gilbert (BMC Racing) at a gap. His national road championship title marked the tenth victory of his 2012 season.
