| Fabian Wegmann (Garmin-Barracuda) won the third German national road championship of his career Sunday, outsprinting Linus Gerdemann (RadioShack-Nissan) and Julian Kern of Leopard Trek Continental in a three man sprint. After 19 laps of a 10.5 kilometer circuit course, the three men had dropped breakaway companions and lined up for the sprint. This is Wegmann's third German road championship title after succeeding in the championship in both 2007 and 2008. It is also the first victory of his 2012 season.
During the 2nd of 19 10.5 kilometer laps an escape group featuring Danilo Hondo, Marcel Kittel and and Jens Voigt. At the 60 kilometer to go point Wegmann, Andre Greipel, Gerdemann, Paul Martens and others joined the early escape group. With just four laps to go Wegmann, Gerdemann, Kern and Martens attacked the breakaway group and rode up the road, however Martens failed to hang onto the high paced speed of the three others and was dropped.
