2012 Tour de Suisse - Stage 1

Liquigas-Cannondale's Peter Sagan claimed yet another victory in 2012, flying through the opening 7.3 kilometer time trial at this year's Tour de Suisse to take the stage victory and race lead ahead of former World Time Trial Champion, Fabian Cancellara of RadioShack-Nissan and teammate Moreno Moser. Sagan stopped the clock in Lugano, Switzerland with a time of 9 minutes, 43 seconds, four seconds faster than Cancellara and seven seconds faster than Moser.

Cancellara had won on this time trial course in the Tour de Suisse for the past two years, but failed to put up a good enough time to beat Sagan.

RadioShack-Nissan captain Frank Schleck attempted to put in a good showing in time trial after abandoning the 2012 Giro d'Italia on stage 15. The rider from Luxembourg placed 44th in the time trial with a time of 10:19. He currently sits thirty-six behind race leader Peter Sagan.

Heading into tomorrow's stage, the peloton races 218 kilometers from Verbania to Verbier. Peter Sagan and the Liquigas-Cannondale squad will have to keep the lead safe and watch out for attacks from others ranked highly in the overall.
