UCI 2015 Road World Championships - Three Candidates
Announced
Oman, Québec and Richmond announced as candidates to organise the 2015 UCI Road
World Championships
The Sultanate of Oman announced its bid to organise the 2015 UCI Road World
Championships at the close of the Tour of Oman, the UCI Asia Tour event that
finished on Sunday.
Oman joins the cities of Québec (Canada) and Richmond, Virginia (United
States) that have already announced their candidatures to organise the 2015
World Championships.
It was decided at the UCI Management Committee in Melbourne last year that
only candidates from outside Europe would be accepted for the 2015 edition of
the World Championships in order to acknowledge the increasing interest of
non-European countries in organising the Championships.
The UCI Management Committee will decide on the award the 2015 UCI Road World
Championships at its meeting in Copenhagen (Denmark) on 21-22 September.
The three candidatures will now be examined during the evaluation stage.
Richmond,
Virginia announced its bid in December to bring the Worlds back to the USA
the first time since 1986 when Colorado Springs hosted the events. Canada hosted
the worlds in
Hamilton in 2003.
Future Worlds Venues:
Current confirmed World Championships: 2011 Copenhagen, Denmark, 2012 - Limburg
Province, Netherlands, 2013 Florence, Italy. Current candidates for 2014 are
Belgium and France. While Richmond will face a runoff in their bid with Québec,
Canada and Oman for the honors for the 2015 Championships
It's a little early to make reservations as the bid process starting next
year will include coming up with the sponsors, financial commitments and courses
to submit to the UCI panel that chooses and approves the city; but not too early
to mark it on your calendar as a possible week vacation in Richmond in 2015. We
can expect a final announcement from the UCI Commission at the 2011 Worlds.

Celebrating our tenth year!
