World Cup of Cyclocross - Heusden-Zolder Women
Katie Compton Dominates on way to Solo Win and World Cup Lead, Results and
Rankings.
Katie Compton Dominated the race again winning from the front with almost a
minutes lead on Marrianne Vos. The World Cup leader Sanne Van Passen followed
off Vos's pace at 1:29 for third losing the lead to Compton; but only by ten
points. Daphny Van den Brand and Pavla Havlikova finished in 4th and 5th at about 45
seconds behind Van Passen.
A confident Katie Compton took her USA Championship jersey to the front from
the start of the race today plowing a path through the snow for her rivals.
Sanne van Paassen led the chase 20 seconds later followed by: Pavla Havlikova,
Daphny van den Brand, Christel Ferrier-Bruneau and Marianne Vos.
Compton, in spite of crashing was able to extend her lead each lap to add to
take her fourth World Cup win of the season. Behind Compton the battle for
second came down to Vos and Sanne Van Passen; Marianne dropped Van Passen on the
final lap to claim second for the second week in a row racing over the line at
54 seconds after Compton celebrated. Van Passen finished 35 seconds later,
unable to catch Vos in the final lap.
Compton Leads World Cup Rankings
Katie Compton took the World Cup leaders jersey with a narrow margin of ten
points over Sann Van Passen, with Daphny Van den Brand 50 points back in third.
Pavla Havlikova and Sanne Cant round out the top 5 at abaout 100 points.
Compton's goal this year is the World Championships and is expected to skip at
least one of the coming final world cup races; making Van Passen, Van and Van
den Brand the two most likely candidates to take the season honors.
