2010 Eneco Tour - Stage 5
Garmin's young talent Jack Bobridge wins Dutch Hills stage in Sittard. Bobridge attacks in final out of six rider break. German Tony Martin keeps overall lead.

Garmin's young talented gun Jack Bobridge (Garmin-Transitions) took his first professional road victory in the fifth stage of the Eneco Tour today. In the 208 km stage from Roermond to Sittard with some of the major climbs well-known from the Amstel Gold Race Bobridge won after an attack in the finale out of a six rider, initially 11 riders, break. At 4 seconds Ruben Perez (Euskaltel) won the sprint for second followed by Thomas de Gendt, Michael van Staeyen, Gorik Gardeyn and Dominik Nerz. Tony Martin who finished in the bunch at 15 seconds keeps the overall lead.

Bobridge was part of an eleven rider break who broke clear in the beginning of the stage. The others in the break were Kenny Dehaes (Omega Pharma), Maxim Gourov (Astana), Mauro Da Dalto (Lampre), Ruben Perez (Euskaltel), Kevin Hulsmans (Quick Step), Dominique Nerz (Milram), Yauheni Hutarovich (Francaise des Jeux), Thomas De Gendt (Topsport Vlaanderen), Michael van Staeyen (Topsport Vlaanderen) and Gorik Gardeyn (Vacansoleil).

With none of the riders being a serious GC contender, De Gendt was the best ranked rider at 3.37 from Martin, the break quickly gained an advantage of more than four minutes. In the bunch Rabobank and HTC-Columbia were joining forces but the gap started to come down when Team Sky, the team of Edvald Boasson Hagen, came to the front. With 50 km to go on the second and final time up the Cauberg Richie Porte (Saxo Bank) and Lars Boom (Rabobank) attacked but were soon brought back.

In the final of the race, including one local lap in Sittard, the Topsport Vlaanderen duo tried to take advantage of their numerical advantage but were chased down by Jack Bobridge and Ruben Perez. With 2 km to go Bobridge attacked and used his track pursuit skills to get rid off the others and to win with a small lead on his breakcompanions.

For Garmin the Eneco Tour is a real success thus far with two stage wins and a few days in the overall lead.
