2010 Giro d'Italia - Team Milram Squad
Gerry van Gerwen's Milram Team aims to surprise at the Giro d’Italia - Team
captain Linus Gerdemann makes his Giro debut as team leader...

Team MILRAM announced its nine riders for the Giro d'Italia at a press
conference held by the Giro organizer RCS Sport last week on the 20th.
Linus Gerdemann will make his
Giro debut while the team makes its fifth appearance, and team manager Gerry
van Gerwen hopes to pull off a surprise at the race. In the presence of Matteo
Pastore, the Director for International Relations/Media of RCS Sport, the Milram
captain and his team boss emphasized the importance of the Giro d'Italia, which
begins on May 8 in Amsterdam.
"I am celebrating my premiere in the Giro d'Italia this year," explained
Milram
captain Linus Gerdemann at the press conference.
"I am very much looking forward
to it. The Giro is a race with the highest priority for me. I always liked to
ride in Italian races and feel very comfortable there. The Italian culture and
lifestyle pleases me, too. So far I have had a difficult preparation for the
Giro. Since Milan-San Remo I have had health problems and had to take an
unplanned race break. So at this point it is hard to say what goals might be
realistic, since it is not now possible to foretell my form at the start of the
Giro. In any case, my goal is to do something there, and I am glad to accept the
challenge of the Giro d'Italia."
"At Team Miram, we have become a German team, but we still have Italian roots,"
said Gerry van Gerwen, general manager. "In light of our Italian
personnel and and our Italian directeur sportif Vittorio Algeri, you can even
say that the Italian heart still beats in our team. The Giro d'Italia has always
been and is still one of our major season highlights"
"The line-up which we will have at the start in Amsterdam underlines the
value of the Giro to our team. Linus Gerdemann leads us as captain in Italy,
even if his recent illnesses prevent us from predicting his form. Our goal is to
surprise at the race and to help shape the Giro. We are to be reckoned with."
The Giro d'Italia starts this year on May 8 in the Dutch city of Amsterdam. From
there the race runs three weeks and a total of 3,418 challenging kilometers
until the finish in Verona, where a closing time trial on May 30 will crown the
winner of the Giro 2010.
