Francaise des Jeux  - 2010
The French team of Marc Madiot returns for 2010 ready for prime time with a combination of experience and promise for a strong performance in the coming season....

Franccaise des Jeux, who in all honesty didn't have their best year in 2009, have finalized their 2010 roster. Francaise des Jeux is a French team, named after its sponsor, the French national lottery. Sponsorship of the team began in 1997. The team was named FDJeux.com in 2003 and 2004, then renamed Francaise des Jeux.

The team is managed by the very experienced two-time Paris-Roubaix winner Marc Madiot. Madiot`s style was a very attacking one, and the team is also known for riding aggressively, and is often seen in the escapes at the front of the races.

When Marc Madiot was asked about his assessment of the 2009 season he commented that the collective result was quite good in all disciplines. On the road the  victory by Sandy Casar Bourg Saint-Maurice stage in the tour, In cyclo-cross, Francis Mourey was champion of France. In total, our riders have won a score of victories this year.

In the Tour de France the team finished 7th, and they placed two riders in the top 15 overall: Christophe Le Mevel, 10th, and Sandy Casar, 12th.

"We have also achieved an excellent result at the French road championships where Anthony Geslin (2nd) and Anthony Roux (3rd) finished on the podium. Finally, we won the Coupe de France for the second consecutive year, demonstrating our consistency at the highest level throughout the season."

Speaking of the evelations of the young riders on the team...
"Our young riders have confirmed their potential success in winning major races: I think the stage victory of Anthony Roux at the Tour of Spain and Jeremy Roy, stage winner at Paris-Nice. Christophe Le Mevel has also achieved strong performances in the Tour de France. In parallel, the leaders have fulfilled their mission. Like Sandy Casar, they took the whole team up.

Only a small regret, two 2nd places for Sandy Casar at the tour , and Sylvain Chavanel without a victory. Chavanel took two seconds during the season at stage at the l’Etoile de Bessèges, une étape des Quatre Jours de Dunkerque.

Composed of mostly French riders; however it is its foreign pros who have been most successful. In 2003 Australian Bradley McGee, claimed the Tour de France’s yellow jersey in the prologue and his fellow countryman Baden Cooke won the Green Jersey. Philippe Gilbert, before he left to join the then Silence-Lotto team in 2008, won Paris-Tours.

The team has some exciting talent in its young riders, such as as Rémy Di Gregorio and Wesley Sulzberger, and good, solid experienced pros such as Sandy Casar, Frédéric Guesdon and Christophe Le Mével.

Sandy Casar is a favourite amongst French fans, and still only 30. He had a quiet 2009 but still has plenty to offer the team and will be hoping to repeat his victory in the Tour de France in 2007.

Rémy Di Gregorio is still only 23, and as a Frenchman in a French team he has the burden of expectations upon his young shoulders. He will be hoping to justify those expectations in 2010.

Christophe Le Mevel is however the real hope of the team. At 28, his best years are still to come, and rode well enough to claim 10th place at the 2009 Tour de France, just 14’25” behind winner Alberto Contador.

Christophe  is keen to repeat his good form from 2009. “I want to show my ranking at the Tour de France was not due to chance,” he said. “I have already demonstrated in 2009 that I was worthy of the three best French races: I was 10th in Paris-Nice; Dauphiné Libéré 10th; 10th Tour de France. This season, I will try to do better and I want to be competitive from Paris-Nice.

“I especially want to raise my arms,” he said, meaning of course that he wants to win. “At some key moments of races maybe I was too defensive,” he conceded. “It’s a question of temperament and confidence. If I have the opportunity to attack, I shouldn’t hesitate any more...”

Le Mevel will need to improve his time trialing though if he wants to get anywhere near the podium in Paris.
