2009 Shipwreck Coast Classic - 116.7km
Incorporating the Victorian Open Road Championships, Cameron Jennings claims victory in the Shipwreck Coast Classic. Jenny McPherson seals victory in the Women's.

Queenslander Cameron Jennings (Budget Forklifts) reigned supreme in the 116.7km Shipwreck Coast Cassic from Warrnambool to Allansford today. The race also incorporated the Victorian Open Road Championships after they were cancelled due to wild weather in the Tour of Geelong in August. Kane Walker (Team 2XU - ARC) and Will Clarke (Praties) finished second and third respectively. They all finished on the same time in two hours, 46 minutes and 33 seconds.

In the women's, Victorian Jenny McPherson won adding the title to her Victorian Open Criterium victory in August. Davina Summers and Joanne Hogan rounded out the podium.

Will Clarke, who finished third has had a consistent season with seven podiums and three wins which include Stage 1 of the Tour of Canberra where he also won the general classification. His recent was a win in stage 4 of the Tour of Geelong in August. Unfortunately he came up just short again on Sunday.

"The race went well for me. I was able to make the split that went very early in the race due to the strong wind. I had four team mates with me in the group." Will said.

"I made a break away from that split that went around the 60km mark. There were around 12 riders left coming into the last 5-10km and I was an aggressor in splitting it into two groups. I could not quite get away on my own. I made a mistake in the last few hundred metres and came third." he added.

Will Clarke now leads Cycling Australia's National Road Series Competition.

"My team mate Dylan Newell and myself have shared the lead all year. He had it from the Mersey Valley tour where I came fourth. I won the Canberra tour and gained the lead. I was third at the tour of Geelong and I held it to the Launceston to New Norfolk where Dylan rode very well and the weather got the better of me. I managed to gain the lead back on the weekend with third which gives me about 50 points on him." Clarke said.

"We are both far enough ahead that we should secure first and second overall. 99% sure anyway. It's been interesting for both of us going for it but at the end of the day we're both still team mates" he concluded.

The next and last race in the national road series will be the Tour of Perth from Friday the 13th of November to Sunday the 15th.
