Jamis Bicycles Sponsors  #1 Road Racing Team in USA
The “dream team” of Sebastian Haedo, Luis Amaran, and Alejandro Borrajo will return to North American road racing next year as the core of the Jamis/Sutter Home Men’s Cycling Team presented by Colavita. Carine Joannou, President of title sponsor Jamis Bicycles, announced on Thursday.

Jamis Bicycles will make its debut as title sponsor on the pro road racing circuit in 2010, assuming the role held by Colavita USA for the last seven years. Jamis, based in Northvale, New Jersey, has supplied road frames and time trial bikes for the squad for the last two seasons. Jamis is also the official bike sponsor of the US Pro Tri Professional Triathlon Team and a long-time supporter of other cycling disciplines, including mountain biking and cyclocross. Colavita will continue as presenting sponsor for the 2010 season and Sutter Home Winery is returning as co-title sponsor.

“Colavita created a highly successful franchise centered around teamwork,” said Joannou. “We’re pleased that John Profaci and his staff at Colavita will continue to support the operations of the team. We look forward to working with Colavita and our partners at Sutter Home for more outstanding results next year.”

Haedo, Amaran, and Borrajo led the Colavita/Sutter Home Men’s Cycling Team to its best season ever in 2009. Colavita/Sutter Home finished as the number one men’s team in the US with over 20 victories and 20 plus podium appearances and five riders in the top 15 of the NRC’s individual rankings.

Sprinter Sebastian Haedo, 2nd in the men’s standings, wrapped up the 2009 season with seven individual victories and more than 10 podium finishes. Fellow sprinter and Argentinean compatriot Alejandro Borrajo ranked fifth overall, and Luis Amaran, known for his strength and power, followed in tenth.

“Seba, Luis, and Alejandro are among the top ranked riders in the North American peloton so we’re thrilled that they have re-signed for 2010,” said Joannou. “Under the leadership of Directeur Sportif Sebastian Alexandre, I know the wins will keep coming.”

Also returning to race in Jamis/Sutter Home colors are Anibal Borrajo, brother of Alejandro, Tyler Wren, Andy Guptill, and Guido Palma. For 2010, Jamis/Sutter Home has also signed Wren’s fellow Princeton alumnus, Nick Frey, Jamey Driscoll, Frank Travieso, and Jackie Simes. Frey, who recently graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering, is the 2009 Collegiate National Road Racing champion and captured the under-23 national time trial championships in 2007. Driscoll, who rode with Rock Racing last year, is the reigning Collegiate National Road Race Champion and finished second in the US National Cyclocross Championships in 2008. Travieso is a criterium specialist and former winner of the USA Criterium Series; Simes comes over from Team Mountain Khaki.

The Colavita/Sutter Home Women’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light concluded the season as the #3 team in the US, with 14 individual victories and over 30 podium finishes. The Colavita/Sutter Home squad celebrated with star sprinter Tina Pic as she claimed the US National Criterium Championship title for a record-setting sixth time in her final year of competitive racing. Pic and teammate Catherine Cheatley finished in the top 5 for the women’s individual standings.

“With top rankings for both teams and a national championship title, 2009 will clearly be remembered as our dream season!” said John A. Profaci, Vice President of Marketing for co-title sponsor Colavita USA, which markets the #1 brand of Italian extra virgin olive oil and other specialty food products, including Perugina chocolates.

“On a personal level, these results are extremely satisfying after the hard work put in by all involved over the years – the cyclists, staff, and management,” added Profaci. “In the men’s program, we were very fortunate from the start to have US cycling legends Frankie and Mark McCormack put their arms around the Colavita program after the Saturn team ended.”

“Sebastian Alexandre, now Directeur Sportif of the Colavita/Sutter Home Men’s Team, has been with us from the very start back in 2002,” Profaci continued. “Sebastian has helped deliver the winning magic of his childhood friends, the Haedo and Borrajo brothers.”

“On the women’s side, Tina Pic, Iona Wynter Parks, and Dotsie Bausch have worked hard over the years to establish Colavita/Sutter Home as one of the top squads in the North American peloton,” said Profaci. “Under the leadership of Tina and Rachel Heal, I know the team will remain at this winning level.”
