RadioShack Granted ProTour License
Here we go... USA adds third top tier UCI registered team to the national
roster...
America has another top tier team according to the International Cycling
Union (UCI) which granted Team RadioShack a ProTour license for the next four
years. The license will begin at the beginning of 2010 and run through 2014 at
which time it will be up for renewal.
This is a major win for Lance Armstrong and Co. because it means access to
all ProTour events. Even though it does not guarantee entry into some major
races such as Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Tour de France it will
surely put pressure on the organizers to include them in these races.
The signing of quality riders such as Lance Armstrong, Levi Leipheimer and
Andreas Klöden most definitely helped gain ProTour status, but maybe more
importantly for the future of the team is the commitment of sponsorship from
RadioShack. So much so that the UCI decided to award a four-year license. With
Armstrong riding next year and maybe the year after that (we’ll see), it seems
as though this team is poised to continue in the post Armstrong era.
