69th Circuit Franco-Belge Stage 4 Report and Final Results
Argentine Juan Jose Haedo takes the stage win, Garmin-Slipstream's Tyler Farrar wins the overall.

Team Saxo Bank's Juan Jose Haedo has won the fourth and final stage of the 69th Circuit Franco - Belge, a 147 km ride from Mons to Tournai. American Tyler Farrar finished safely in the main bunch in the same time as the winner to claim the overall victory.

After a tough stage three the peloton were hoping for an easier day. and so it was to prove with flat roads and little wind to trouble the riders. Despite the usual flurry of activity at the start of the stage it was not until the 35th kilometre that a breakaway finally succeeded when Florent Brard of Cofidis, Martin Kohler of BMC, Stijn Vandenberg of Katusha and Fabrice Jeandesboz of Bessons Chaussures got away.

They built a lead of over three minutes but Farrar's Garmin team were in control of the situation, managing the time gap and making sure the break would not get any opportunity to succeed.

The four riders were gradually chased down and caught, prompting counter attacks which culminated in a leading group of eight riders at the front of the race, including Saxo Bank's Lars Bak, with a lead of little over a minute with 115kms ridden and the peloton tackiling five laps of the final circuit around Tournai.

Again, race leader Farrar's team worked tirelessly to bring the peloton back together and with eight kilometres to go the main bunch was intact. In the closing stages a small split in the peloton formed but Farrar made sure he was in the right place, finishing in the same time as stage winner Juan Jose Haedo who outsprinted Francais des Jeux's Yauheni Hutarovich and Cervelo Test Team's Roger Hammond to take the win.

Begium's Tom Boonen of Team Quick Step and Britain's Roger Hammond of Cervelo Test Team completed the final podium.

Team Saxo Bank's Sports Director Torsten Schmidt on Haedo's stage win:
“It was good to finish the race like this after several days of pure Farrar-dominance. The course today was harder than the previous stages leaving Lars Bak with a great sense of motivation and he did what he could to make the break last. Fortunately, Haedo was feeling powerful as well and he gave the whole team and himself a great victory today with a magnificent finish."

Cervelo TestTeam
Sports Director Marcello Albasini on the stage and Hammond's third place overall:

"It was a similar stage to yesterday's, flat on good roads but with much less wind today. Actually, it was a pretty easy stage. The first breakaway with two riders came after 35 km, but nothing dangerous. There were 5 final laps and when we arrived for the first one, the peloton chased the group back and then then there was another group of four riders, they got chased back and then another group of 8 left so it was a pretty active finale. At the end everything came together, Daniel Lloyd worked for Roger in the final giving him a good lead out. Roger finished third today in the stage behind winner Juan Jose Haedo and also third in the GC with Tyler Farrar (Garmin) winning the GC. The team worked very well for him this week and we are satisfied with the results."
