Valley Preferred Cycling Center Hosting 2009 Collegiate
Track Nationals
The USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships will be held
this weekend at Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Trexlertown. The event, which
is hosted by Penn State University, will mark the opening of the 2009-2010 USA
Cycling Collegiate Cycling season.
The event will also feature several local riders. Jeremy Shirock (Emmaus, Pa.),
Lauren Shirock (Emmaus, Pa.), Morgan Farnsworth (Schnecksville, Pa.), Rodney
Santiago (Allentown, Pa.) and David Espinoza (Breinigsville, Pa.) will be competing
for Penn State University; Nik Reinert (Mertztown, Pa.) will riding for the
University of Pittsburgh; Mary Costelloe (Emmaus, Pa.) and Colleen Hayduk (Kutztown,
Pa.) will be representing Kutztown University; Kim Geist (Emmaus, Pa.), riding
for Northeastern University; Matthew Holub (Quakertown, Pa.) for the University
of New Hampshire; Kyle Wagner (Bethlehem, Pa.) for Lehigh University; Ben Barczewski
(Allentown, Pa.) for Columbia University; and Taylor Brown (Fleetwood, Pa.)
for Marian College.
These riders will be among more than 100 student-athletes from across the country
that will vie for national titles in over ten different events on the track.
Meanwhile, dozens of schools from all over the nation will compete for an overall
national title.
The most prestigious of the national titles that will be awarded over the weekend
will be the omnium titles given to the top overall male and female individuals
in Divisions I and II, as well as the best overall teams in each division.
Competition is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. this Thursday. The event is slated
to run through Saturday evening with morning sessions beginning at 9:00 a.m.
each day and evening sessions at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27 has been designated
an official rain day, meaning any competition that is postponed due to weather
conditions will take place Sunday morning.
Admission is FREE. The 2009 Collegiate Track Nationals at Valley Preferred Cycling
