Danish National Championships - ITT
Lars Bak leads a Saxo Bank sweep of the podium with team mates Rasmussen,  and Fuglsang joining him on the podium for his 3rd consecutive Championship. Columbia/Highroad's Linda Villumsen Caps 2nd ITT Title.

Team Saxo Bank
Triple Triumph in Denmark

Team Saxo Bank took all three places on the podium after today's Danish championships in time trial held in Sønderborg, Denmark. The riders did 38.5 kilometres on a route that held a few surprises with a couple of hills and a single section of cobblestone.

However, it was no surprise that it was the defending champion, Lars Bak, who did the course in the fastest time. Alex Rasmussen, who could have won if it wasn't for an unfortunate flat tire, took the silver medal and Jakob Fuglsang showed his skills in the fight against the clock by doing the time trial fast enough to get a bronze medal.

Tying up the day with a bow for Bjarne Riis,  Lasse Bøchman finished fourth completing a sweep of the top 4 times. Liquigas'  Brian Bach Vandborg  filled out the top five. 0.49,44.89.

Lars Bak has now won the title three years in a row. Saxo Bank's Frank Høj and Niki Sørensen finished 7th and 8th.

Women's ITT
Linda Villumsen
of Herning, Denmark retained her 2008 National Time Trial title by completing the 25.5-kilometre course with the fastest time despite strong winds. Team Flexpoint's Trine Schmidt finished second over 4 seconds down, with Marriet Kloppenburg (Hitec Products/UCK) took the final podium step. Lisbeth Lund and Catherine Fuglsang filled out the top 5 at the time trial nationals.

"The wind was so strong, at my back on the way out, and from the front on the way back. There was so much wind on the downhill that I really had to use my brakes," commented 22-year-old Villumsen after the win. "As always, I am super nervous before this race. I put very high expectations on myself. If I didn't win, I would be very disappointed. So I tried to listen to good music and not warm up too much. It all came together nicely."

The 2008 Danish Road and Time Trial Champion will seek to defend her Road Champion title Saturday, then proceeds to Italy's Giro d'Italia Feminin starting Friday, July 3rd. "We will have a super strong team at the Giro, so that is really my next focus
