Delta Tour Zeeland (2.1) - Stage 1

Italian sprinter Alessandro "Alejet" Petacchi has won the second stage in the Delta Tour. In the stage from Middelburg to Goes over 181,7 km the LPR rider was the fastest in the bunch sprint over race leader Tyler Farrar and Bobbie Traksel. With his second place Farrar remains in the overall lead. He now has six seconds advantage over Petacchi and 11 seconds over André Schulze.

The stage was animated by a break of Bart Dockx (Silence-Lotto) and Jean Zen (Palmans-Cras). The two got a maximum gap of just over three minutes but due to the work of the sprinters teams, mainly Garmin and LPR, they were caught with about 5 km to go. In the final kilometers the winner of the Tour de Picardie, Lieuwe Westra (Vacansoleil), gave it a try but a bunch sprint was unavoidable.
