Dolmans Heuvelland Classic - Women

Lucinda Brand has won the third edition of the Dolmans Heuvelland Classic. The rider of the Leontien.nl team attacked just before the top of the final climb of the Cauberg, with three kilometers to go, to win with a lead of around twenty seconds on her break companions Saskia Elemans (Team Flexpoint) and Tina Liebig (DSB Bank - Nederland Bloeit). Tina Liebig second and Saskia Elemans third completed the podium.

The race had despite the competition of the Redlands Classic in the USA and the World Cup Trofeo Alfredo Binda in Italy a decent participation field. The bunch stayed together for a long time due to the high pace. On climbs such as the Kruishoeveweg, Cauberg (3x), Geulhemmerberg (2x) and Bemelerberg (2x) the field reduced due to the natural selection.

Deep into the final the first serious attack came on the second climb of the Cauberg from Liesbeth de Vocht (DSB Bank - Nederland Bloeit) and Marlijn Binnendijk (Leontien.nl). After the two were caught the decisive break broke clear with Lucinda Brand, Tina Liebig and Saskia Elemans. Just before the summit of the final climb of the Cauberg Brand moved away from her companions to take her first win of the season.

Brand was very happy with her win "I attacked just before the top of the Cauberg. It was everything or nothing. I switched to a higher gear as I saw that the others weren not able to follow. I'm very happy with this win"
