Cervélo Test Team's Ignatas Konovalovas claims U23 line honors in a solo effort
in Mendrisio, Switzerland
Cervelo's Ignatas Konovalovas won the Giro del Mendrisiotto in Mendrisio,
Switzerland today. Konovalovas attacked his 18 breakmates on the lasf hill to
solo to the finish six seconds ahead of the group.
Daniele Callegarin led the first group to the finish taking second with Pčter
Kusztor third. Cervelo Test Team had an obvious advantage placing six riders in
the break at the U23 race organized by Velo Club Mendrisio.
Cervélo TestTeam's Martin Reimer was 3rd in the group sprint at the finish;
Reimer and Daniele Colli of Carmiooro/AStyle filled out the top five.
Ignatas Konovalovas commented after his win, "In the last lap, we made a good
tempo, but nobody dropped off, so then we started attacking and going up with
attacks. I caught a good moment to attack and was lucky to come to the finish
alone."
The U19 race was won by Francesco Sedaboni of Team Fll.I Girogi with Mattia
Vigano and Ivan Belotti filling out the Podium. In the U17 race Visd Jejcic took
the line honors with Patrick Jäqer and Tom Bohli topping the podium.

UCI World Road Championships 2009 in Mendrisio,
Switzerland
The UCI Road World Championships will be held from
23-27 September 2009 in Mendrisio (Switzerland). The UCI has already
approved the circuits. They pass through various municipalities in Mendrisiotto,
as the region between Lake Lugano and Balerna.
The aim of the organisers: to offer a high status and successful event for
both participants and spectators. According to the experts, the topography
offers challenging and technically demanding race circuits. The organisers are
expecting at least 250,000 spectators. Over 100 television stations will
broadcast the races worldwide. A TV audience of over 300 million viewers is
