Sardegna... 5 days of a sprinters duel for supremacy on the beautiful Italian
Island of Sardinia.
The wonderful Italian island of Sardinia in the middle of the Mediterranean
sea got back to word-class cycling maps as the town of Olbia, situated in the
northeastern corner of the island, hosted the start and finishing line of the
2009 Giro di Sardegna. The index will take you back to any stages you missed.

The race started on February 24th, the next 5 days we would see a duel
between Mirco Lorenzetto (Lampre/NGC) with his former capitano Alessandro
'Ale Jet' Petacchi to (LPR) all set in the magnificent backdrop of the
towns and panoramas of the Italian island of Sardinia. Ale Jet had his
challenges during the 5 days of racing as Alessandro, with the last name Ballan
and Oscar "the Cat" Gatto and Daniele Bennati joined in the four way duel
for stage wins.

The leadoutman's revenge: Mirco Lorenzetto pips former capitano
Petacchi to the line to claim honours as top class cycling is back to
magnificent Sardinia.

AleJet at last!! Petacchi finds back the way to success in the first
real clash with Bennati, but the latter claims his first ever overall
victory in a stage race.
