Volta ao Algarve (2.1) - Race Program & Index
The 2009 Volta ao Algarve kicked off on
Wednesday (February 18) in Albufeire, Portugal and ended in Portimao on Sunday,
February 22. The season debut for triple grand tour winner Alberto Contador who
did not disappoint his fans or team...
In the end Alberto opened the 2009 season the way he
closed the previous year... by winning.

Alberto Contador gets his kisses from the misses... only one more stage to
clinch his victory in the 2008 Vuelta and join the pantheon of cycling gods who
have won all three grand tours.

Cervelo's Heinrich Haussler opens 2009 Volta ao Algarve. Haussler rounds
off excellent team work. Dennis van Winden and Koldo Fernandez second and
third. Season debut of Alberto Contador.

Euskaltel's Orange Warrior, Koldo Fernandez takes the stage and control
of the race. Cervelo's Heinrich Haussler leads Best Young Rider...

Katusha continues to rock! Colom wins mountain stage in Algarve ahead of
Tour, Giro and Vuelta winner Alberto Contador. Colom leads with slight
margin with the ITT to come.

Astana in winning ways. Tour de France, Giro D'Italia and Vuelta
D'Espana winner Alberto Contador outclasses the competition in the 33,7 km
Time Trial in the Algarve. Chavanel and Klöden in second and third. Contador
new leader!

Cervelo'sYoung Heinrich HAussler ended the race as he began it with the
stage victory. Alberto Contador leads off his year with his first stage race
victory.
