Tour de San Luis (2.1) - Stage 6

The American Colavita team has a great start in the 2009 season with another stage win in the Tour de San Luis. After Lucas Sebastian Haedo in stage two it was Luis Romero Amaran who won the sixth stage on the Potrero de los Funes circuit. The Cuban stage winner won with a 39 seconds lead on three chasers led home by Saxo Bank's Matti Breschel. Manuel Belletti finished in third. Alfredo Lucero who finished in the bunch 48 seconds down on Amaran stays in the overall lead with one stage to go.

The sixth stage on the Potrero de los Funes circuit was 121 km long in distance. The stage included six laps of six kilometers on the track followed by a loop of 60 km and finally return to the track for another six laps before the finish.

The stage was animated by a break including Nelson Vitorino (Palmeiras-Resort), Jason McCartney (Saxo Bank), Jesús Del Nero (Fuji-Servetto), Javier Ramírez (Andalucía-Cajasur), Eric Baumann (Sparkasse), Andy Jacques-Maynes (Bissell), Aaron Olson, Davide Frattini (Colavita-Sutter Home), Edwin Avila (Colombia), Rida Cador (Atlas Romers), John Parra (Team Mexico) and Pabo Pintos (Team Uruguay).

The break stayed in front for about half of the race but they never gained a gap of more than half a minute. Due to the work of Team Argentina, the team of race leader Lucero, the break was reeled in on one of the climbs.

Over halfway the race Luis Romero Amaran (Colavita), Kjell Carlstrom (Liquigas), David de la Fuente (Fuji-Servetto), Kurt-Asle Arvesen (Saxo Bank), Carlos José Ochoa (Diquigiovanni), Andy Jacques-Maynes (Bissell), Andreas Schillinger (Nutrixxion), Jean Schuter (Nutrixxion), Lucas Sebastian Haedo (Colavita), Andy Guptill (Colavita), Gustavo Lopez (Team Argentina) and Hernan Cline (Team Uruguay) attacked in which was a more threatening break for race leader Lucero.

Team Argentina started to chase and was able to reel in the break, except of Luis Romero Amaran, with three laps to go. Amaran attacked with about 30 km to go and was able to win the stage with a 39 seconds lead on the first chasers led home by Matti Breschel.

The final stage in and around San Luis will be 167,1 km long in distance and it's likely that the stage will end up in another bunch sprint.
