What a Tour. Congratulations to Lance Armstrong and his incredible Blue
Rockets! Congratulations, and thank you also, to every single rider
who undertook this Tour de France. Every day for the past three weeks you have
given us the most magnificent examples of athleticism and courage that this, or
any other sport, has to offer.
And just so you know, Lance, we haven't forgotten that it's about
survivorship. Read what winning means to him
here, and
in the first installment of his webcast interview today from Paris in our
Main Story.
Jaime Nichols will be giving us the rest of the webcast interview over the next
few days.
I would also like to mention how much I enjoyed getting to know some of you
in the Chatroom during our
live reporting the past couple of weeks - thanks for the great fun and
companionship, and I will see you there again! Remember, if anyone wants to roll
the dice for a chat, just post a "Chat Now" message on the
Message Board!
So what do we do now? Just kidding! The Commonwealth Games are going right
now, our friend Kashi Leuchs is there and we are getting reports from DP reader
Nick Bull. Nick's track and road preview is
here, and
his first track report is
here.
The road races are this weekend at the Games, and DP staff will be there to
see the likes of Australia's Baden Cooke, Cadel Evans, Bradley McGee and Stuart
O'Grady, not to mention Max Sciandri and John Tanner for the English squad, or
Canada's Eric Wohlberg, Mark Walters (who won the USPRO) and Gord Frasier. All
the Commonwealth Games reports will be available in the UK News section on the
left navigation bar as well as in our headlines.
The Tour de 'Toona (or "Tuna") is also underway, through this weekend, and
7Up's Chuck Coyle will be reporting for us. Another interesting race that just
concluded is RAGBRAI (a seven-day tour across Iowa) and we have Rich Pink's
first
installment today. This week we will also be covering a number of other
races, so stay tuned.
We also have an update from our buddy Gordon McCauley
here, a
chat with Dylan
Casey, news on
Frank
Vandenbroucke, who rode for the first time since February at the Classica
Haribo, and the new UCI rider rankings, issued today,
here.
During the Tour we had a lot of new readers visit the site, and I received a
number of emails asking about basic cycling terms. So there is now a
Cycling Glossary on the
right navigation bar - in the future we will add a Cycling FAQ as well (if you
think of a subject you'd like covered,
email me). Thanks to Larry Hickmott for providing the foundation for the
glossary. If you know of a cycling term that should be there, please email me
with it (with your definition too, please!).
The final Fantasy Game results have been put on hold briefly until one Tour
rider's status can be verified - potentially sad news for the peloton yet again;
the story is
here. I hope you will be patient while we see how this affects the Fantasy
Game.
Have great week, and see you in the chat!
