Cascade Cycling Classic – Women: Stage 3 & 4
Kristin Armstrong dominates the time trial taking control of the race. Brooke
Miller takes the smack down in the Stage 4 Bend Downtown Criterium.
From July 9 to July 13 the women competed in the NRC event the Cascade
Cycling Classic. Kristin Armstrong led the G.C. after two stages and after
four stages Armstrong has increased her lead on her competitors as she won the
time-trial taking a chunk of time out of her rivals. Brooke Miller won the stage
4 downtown criterium.
Stage 3: Skyliners Time Trial
Race leader Kristin Armstrong (Cervelo) 2007 world time trial champion dominated the 22,4 km time trial in the
Cascade Cycling Classic. The win only strengthened her grasp on the general
classification with almost a two minute advantage. The Webcor girls Christine Thorburn and Katheryn Mattis finished second and
third respectively 0.52 and 1.47 down on Armstrong. For Armstrong it was her final time trial in preparation for the Olympic time
trial in Beijing in August.

We also have to mention the strong performance of Canadian U23 champion Julie
Beveridge finishing fourth in this stage and third in the overall ranking. Watch this girl as she is a hot
prospect for the future in Canadian Cycling and who knows much more in the
future...

Stage 4: Downtown Criterium
The fourth stage in the Cascade Cycling Classic was won by Team TIBCO sprinter
Brooke Miller. Miller had the fastest legs in the bunch sprint out distancing Gina
Grain and Alison Testroete who finished second and third.

At the beginning of the race there were attacks before the echoes died in the
distance from the starters gun. Among the early protagonists: Meredith Miller
and Felicia Gomez but each escapes was denied with Kristin Armstrong
controlling the race from the front almost on her own. Armstrong was left with
no other choice riding without any Cervelo Lifeforce teammates in the race.

With two laps to go Aaron’s Pro Cycling took control of the race to force a
sprint finish. In the final lap the Aaron’s team got help of Webcor, Team
TIBCO and the Value Act Capital team and the bunch sprint wasn’t unavoidable.

Armstrong who finished in the bunch remains in the overall lead. She has an
advantage of 1.55 on Christine Thorburn and 2.50 on Julie Beveridge. Katheryn
Mattis and Kristin Sanders rounded off the top 5 on the G.C.
